It takes two, period. You could be the best wife in the world and he could still be a bum. Get that outta the way.

The first thing that I would tell a new bride is about men's need for unconditional respect. Please, hear me out, just like you need unconditional love from him, he needs unconditional respect from you. I don't mean kiss his butt, I mean when you speak to him, look at him, argue with him, etc. use a tone and body language that communicates respect to him. He doesn't just want it, he needs it.

I'm sure you've heard that the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach, right? If you ask a man how he would view his wife taking the time and energy to make him a good meal when he gets home from work, he would say that she is showing him respect. It isn't the food that makes him love, it's the motivation behind it.

Just like it's his job to love you whether you're lovable or not, it's your job to show him respect whether he's respectable or not. The sooner that you accept it the better off you'll be.

This is where you should drag him over to the screen.

Your near-bride wants to have the best marriage that she can, which means she wants to love you and for both of you to be happy together for a long, long time.

I've given her a short run-down and if you're reading this then you should be ecstatic that she's willing to show you the respect that you so badly need from her.

Now here's your part: Show her that you love her no matter how unlovable she is being. That is the absolutely fastest way to get her to respect you. When you are wrong, she already knows, your friends know, her friends know, the dog knows. Just admit and apologize, she'll respect you for it, you haven't 'lost' everybody's wrong sometimes.

Marriage at the beginning is more responsibility than later, as marriage at early stage present test for success ';Continue on this relation?'; i have married three times n my life. Best advice i can say is ';Honesty is big ladder in marriage life, forgiven is another, sharing and finally building commonality among you two. He likes that ';wiz time you will like and vs';

patience is last one. Cause marriage requires lots of patience.

I've been married 28 years and I can say that even good marriages go through difficult times. Don't think you have to throw in the towel at the first sign of conflict. Talk things through rationally. Don't fight over little things, they're not worth it.

If you're doing something that you wouldn't do if your spouse were there, then it's something you shouldn't be doing.

A succesful marriage doesn't need a perfect man or perfect woman but it needs a husband and a wife striving together to get a perfect marriage. Trust each other. Be open-minded, both of you. Don't do things that might make him/her insecure. See to it that both of you always make your partner feel loved. For the wife, be always available for him. Sometimes, put some excitements to your romance. Be creative and exciting. Make him feel like a king and surely he will make you feel like a queen. okey?

Married 26 years. When you KNOW you love your spouse, the little things they do that drive you crazy, really aren't that important to obsess about. It's the big things that you are able to work through that matters. Your going to go through some rough waters, but realize that you are in this ';together'; not separate. You BOTH handle the things that come up on a daily basis and rationally work through them. Don't put everything on the other's shoulders. If something is bugging you, talk, talk, talk. Woman usually just want an open-ear that is listening to what they are actually saying. Men usually talk when they want something straightened out. Be NICE when discussing things, show respect for the other. I can't say enough about just being kind.
Well...i am 6 months in...and can tell you that you HAVE to communicate, be respectful and find quality time...one on one time at least once a week together...even if you just veg out and stay home! Realize the fighting doesn't have to be do or die....allow cool down time....and still be an individual!

Every morning when you wake up, think ';how can I make my partner feel loved today?'; If you're both making that your first thought, your actions will speak volumes.

Always put each other first - even when kids come along. The mistake some parents make is doing everything for their children but forget to nourish themselves or their r'ships.

R'ships are like cars in 1 way - they take maintenence. You can't expect one to just run along smoothly forever. It takes work and actively doing things to keep the love going.

Successful marriages aren't just about love. There is a foundation based on common interests, values, and respect. It takes WORK and understanding that your commitment doesn't end at the alter but is renewed every single day.

Laugh ALOT - it will get you through hard times. :)

Never let the romance die. Go for a date night once a week. Do something unexpected. Keep him on his toes! :)
We have been married 32 years, had our ups and downs but we are more deeply in love than ever. How? Treat your partner with deep respect, always give 110% to the relationship, and have lots of hot sex!

Heh the leading point by Prop 8 supporters was to protect the children. Funny hypocrisy is that those who are gay or have gay parents will be discriminated against even more! Speaking as a gay 13 year old I can see how religious bigots only want to protect the straight kids.

Do you believe that mentally disabled people are equal to everyone else? Do you think that they should enjoy the same rights? Some people don't think so. That is why some people do not think they should be married or have children. The same logic can apply to gays. Some people think gays are genetically defected.

There are also people believe that gay couples should enjoy the same rights as a married couple under Civil Union. However, they don't think the union between man/man or woman/woman is exactly the same as the union between man/woman; therefore, the union should not be called a marriage.

Another reason that some people are against legalizing gay marriage is the fear that gay activists will push to add gay marriage or gay family topics into school textbooks. They don't want their young children to be exposed to gay related topics.

As you can see, it is not as simple as ';we're all equal, therefore...';
I'm not sure why Gay people are not giving the same rights as murders or rapist. If you murder someone and go to prison do they take away your right to marry? No. So how dare they even think about prohibiting people who have done nothing wrong rights to marry. It is ridiculous. More states should go along with California so we can stop this prejudice.

You can call polygamy what ever you want to but that doesn't necessarily make it right. As for the Holy Trinity, you don't have to believe in it and if you don't believe in it, why should you care that others do? Will their belief interrupt your life somehow? Will it cost you anything? OR is it that there's something about it that makes you just a little uncomfortable, especially the idea of having to stand one day before a Holy God and give an account for your life? It's your life. You can do whatever you wish with it.

Well, I wasn't happy in my marriage... but you know what? I had to change in order to get happy. I had to do changes in me and what I did in order to get a response from my husband.

First, you shouldn't even be involved with someone who is married. Not only is it morally wrong, but you are setting up yourself for possible failure and not to mention greif. If he ever leaves his woman for you (which statistics prove it to be slim) that will only be half the battle won by you. You will constanly be worried in the back of your mind if he is doing the same thing to you behin your back. It is a tremendous amount of mental anguish, that you my dear may not want to endure. Not to mention Karma....what goes around comes around and for some reason it comes around twice as hard.

History may be an interesting one. You could speak about how each generation imposes it's own moral codes. Puritans had laws (governmental laws) we'd find laughable today. Utah wasn't allowed to join the union until is specifically outlawed polygamy. States did not allow bi-racial marriages. Prohibition of alcohol. ... Eventually, we see a pattern in history. Namely, that laws and policy rarely work out unless there are cultural norms to support them. True, lasting, morality of a society is decided culturally, not by policy of the government.

Why don't you look at the purpose and definition of ';marriage';. Can two same gendered persons enter into the social/legal contract known as ';marriage';, or should that contract be called something else?

in britain until the turn of this century, there was a law called section 28.

it forbid the ';positive promotion'; in schools of same sex couples as acceptable parents/families thereof. it meant that if somebody at school whose parents were a homosexual couple, that child could not be allowed to think its parents and family set up were acceptable. the law was introduced around 1988, and was overturned, as i say, about 2000.

to my mind, it was an inhumane law and should never have been made statute.

When you think about your parents being married, I would bet your first thought isn't about the sex. Think beyond the sex when you do your presentation.
This may be covered under ';civil rights'; but I think someone should look at the laws of other countries (such as the UK) where gay people have civil unions and domestic partner benefits; and compare the pros and cons of civil unions vs. gay marriage.

below is something I wrote last Nov...

Arizona, Florida, Arkansas and California each had some type of anti gay related issues on their ballots yesterday. All passed and took away or denied equal rights to gay and lesbian people. (California has some votes left to count. The outcome of Prop 8 could change. Fingers crossed.) The state constitution of Kentucky was amended in 2004 prohibiting marriage by same-sex couples because the majority of voters agreed with adding the amendment.

I don't think civil rights for a minority group should be voted on, rather decided on by legislation or judicial rulings.

I live in the south... and if civil rights for minority racial groups had been voted on years ago, we could still have separate water fountains today! Sounds outrageous, but that is how the majority felt then. That is why black people needed laws to protect their rights. Not special rights, just equal rights, that mandated fair treatment even if a majority of the citizens did not agree Those battles were won in court, not on election day. .

The reasons that equal rights laws are needed is because a minority group is being treated unfairly by the majority. Putting issues like gay rights up in a vote just allows that majority to keep suppressing the minority.

Who said the arguments failed. In all the states that put it to a vote, voted no. The states that allow same sex marriage didn't let the people decide, like it says in the Constitution, they let the courts decide. That's right. Less than 20 people decided what's best for a few million people.

You know that's weird because I hear all of that about men being afraid to commit, but that hasn't been my experience at all. I've dated some jerks too but for the most part the significant long term boyfriends I had wanted to get married %26amp; it was me that didn't want to. Finding a decent guy is so rare. So many men party up until their late twenties to early thirties. They are so busy getting drunk, hooking up with randoms etc., that settling down is a worry to them.

Men don't want to be tied down to one woman unless she's the one. Men aren't born for commitment. Women have to bring it out in them, and when they find a woman who does, they marry her.
There are a lot of guys who actually DO want to get married, or are at least very open to it. Of course, you won't typically find these guys at a bar, at a frat party, in class, etc.

Now to answer your question: You see, there are 2 major factors in men choosing to marry. It's often not the ';right woman'; as much as the ';right time';. We have all seen a man dump a smart, funny, beautiful woman only to marry someone similar 2 years later. Sure, the last woman could have had more things in common, but more than likely it was just time for him to consider marriage. You need to look for a man who a) is willing to get married period and b) who is READY to get married.

Nowadays, unless a man is very religious, shy, or a family man ';type';, he typically is always on overdrive exposed to a multitude of sex everywhere he turns. He just can't imagine settling down until his looks start to go and his friends no longer call him for boys nights as their wives won't allow it. In other words, he'll marry when his friends are settling down and he is lonely. With internet dating, overtly sexual culture (ex.women proudly having one night stands), and sex with everyone everywhere and anytime, this generation is less likely to marry than ever before. Divorced parents don't help the situation either. Neither does living together (now common), and having kids out of wedlock (also common).

Most men see no incentive to marry, and if they can get the milk for free (all the benefits of a wife with no cost or risk to them), then why not, right? Marriage has been cheapened. There is a slow but steady backlash to ';modesty';, but generally speaking...

Another main factor is that men are well...being boys longer. Nowadays you need a degree to get a job. That degree is expensive. Mom and dad often offer to help. This translates into living at home until age 25 eating mom's pot roast every night while taking your sweet time finishing your degree. Guys today are fine and happy living at home with mom washing their socks until they're 30. They can still go out to the bar at get laid, and then come home the next morning to breakfast on the table. They live in the basement like kids until they're 30. Then they have to play ';catch up'; (living on their own, buying their first place, their first job, etc.) at 30, and marriage is not yet in the picture at all. Men will generally not settle down until they are secure in their finances, own their own home, have a good job, etc.

The fact is, I could go on and on. There are many social and biological factors that come into play. The fact is, if *every* guy you meet is against marriage, you are either meeting the wrong guys, or guys at the wrong time in their lives.

If you are ready to be married, look for a guy who is too. Try dating sites, dating groups (some have a marriage focus), religious singles groups, etc.

My husband and I discussed what we wanted early on. He was a family guy and ready to be married. I was too, but I was definitely less ready than him. ;) Lol! There are people out there who are ready to get married, you just have to find them. I met my husband on a blind date. Never say never!

It's a shame that women's magazine promote brazen sexual adventures and tell women not to ';scare off'; men with marriage. Are we not past conforming ourselves for men's needs anymore? Are we really supposed to cater to these immature ';men'; so they can have their fun worry free? These men need to grow up and become responsible adults. It's part of what's wrong with society. And if you talk the talk, walk the walk. If we want men to respect us enough to marry us, you have to be responsble yourself. Don't live with a guy, don't get pregnant before marriage, etc. That is a nasty slippery slope in 99% of cases....

Most people in the late 18th century would marry those of their own class. Peole tended to mix socially with those of the same or similar background. Wealthy people would be likely to have their portraits painted, because it was the custom in those days, there were no photographs, and if you could afford to employ an artist to paint your portrait, it was a status symbol. A lot of people were amateur artists and would paint portraits of family members. Sketching and painting were considered ladylike accomplishments, and women in particular would often paint portraits of other family members.Women in the late 18th century and Marriage?
In the 18th century, women from all classes married those of the same class. This is how it was done. No laws or anything, just custom.

Portraits were made by wealthy families for all sorts of reasons. I have a portrait of my g-grandmother, painted when she was a child in the 1850-1860 time. She was in a wealthy family, but about the 7th child (3rd or 4th daughter). The portrait is high quality, although the name of the artist has been lost. Still, it was unusual to have such a painting done for someone so far down the list. She married a gentleman cleric, which is great, as their grandchild was my father, and without them, I wouldn't exist! There are no paintings that I am aware of showing them in their later years, although they lived long enough for photography, and I do have some of them.

Remember, the social patterns of this period were customs, not rules. There is little that is hard and fast. It is much like today - women get married (first marriages in any case) in white dresses. There is no rule, but that is what almost everyone does, a custom that began with Queen Victoria. I would guess if Diana had been wearing a blue dress when she married Prince Charles, and their marriage had lasted, that we would be seeing lots of blue wedding dresses today. Until fairly recently, people at weddings just wore their best clothes - little special at all.

However, you are correct in your observation that the women was under the man. She took his name, but he took her property, often as part of the marriage contract. In paintings of couples, often the man is sitting, and the woman is standing behind him. Again, not a rule, but a reflection of the custom of the times.

I actually disagree with this in principle. When I get married, I will take my partner's name, but this is only because I was adopted by my step dad when I was younger - the last name I have now isn't really my family name so under these circumstances I will.

I hyphenated my name. I can go by either. I already had my children so no need to worry about what to name them. My son is from a previous relationship and he has my last name. My daughter is with my husband and she has his last name. I didn't want my son to be the only one with a different last name. I would have just kept my last name, but my husband pitched a hissy fit so I compromised.

Short answer: yes.

It really depends on his level of commitment and how religious he is. My boyfriend is Catholic (so am I), and he grew up in a militant Catholic Household. BUT, he isn't very religious and after a few dates, we kissed, which eventually moved on to making out and fooling around which eventually became all out sex.

If he is extremely Catholic and wants to wait for marriage, he probably will be less likely to have sex. But, in truth, those guys are few and far between.

Don't be in such a rush to have sex though. Appreciate him taking things slow, and savor it. Guys like that are rare and he must really like you. Once you reach the next level, it changes things (for better or worse depending on the relationship) and you can never go back to those early days when everything was new and exciting.

The Vermont Legislature has legalized Gay Marriage. The people of Vermont had there say. Will Conservatives have a hissy fit, stomp their feet and say that this ruins their marriage? As a legal conservative, I have nothing but respect for the legalization of same sex marriages that occurred in Vermont, as opposed to EVERY other state that recognized same sex marriage. I am personally opposed to same sex marriage, but respect the institutional integrity of the legislature to rule otherwise, as a proxy for the population at large.

I have no respect, however, for states that have had same sex marriage forced on them by a judiciary that far oversteps its bounds and its institutional nexus.
The homosexual political lobby has forced a religious ceremony for homosexual couples to be declared a legal possibility in the state of Vermont. Congratulations for proving that the homosexual political lobby cares as little about the rights to freedom of religion as they claim other people care about their rights.

Now they can enjoy the legal right to attempt to sue religions out of existence for denying them access to their churches for their ';Wedding Ceremony';. I wonder how this really advances the rights of all citizens, or whether it just another example of favoritism for the a minority over the majority.

I'm fine with the concept of civil unions which confer the same legal rights as marriage up until yet someone else wants to claim a set of benefits from the government which come out of my pocket in terms increased tax burdens and reduced benefits for me. It it a selfish view on my part, yes. However, it is not any more selfish than the person trying to take the money out of my pocket and put it in their own.

The problem I have with the ';marriage'; part of civil unions is it really isn't about equal legal rights, it is about assaulting the religious values of people with a difference of opinion. Only by using the legal system to destroy the religious freedoms in this country will these people be satisfied with their ';victory';. Mark my prediction, this is just a first step on the ';homosexual agenda's'; assault on the rights of others. Until they make every majority religion miserable enough to leave the country, they will not let up on their assault.

I wrote an article with this title... try some of the things and I agree with the poster above (i gave thumbs up) that the people staying with you should chip in some time taking kids to park or movies.

I think that the legal end of marriage should be possible for all gender combinations in all states.

As for religious ceremonies, that is up to the individual church. If a specific church doesn't want to do a certain marriage ceremony, that is entirely within their rights and should not be pushed.

Because commitment is commitment and love is love regardless of gender, and every religion has its own rules that it should be allowed to follow within its own walls.
It's not a matter of it being illegal. The laws don't make it illegal. The laws give special benefits to certain types of marriages but does not make other types illegal. These benefits are from my tax dollars.

When our founding father's created the United States they said that ';everyone should be treated equally';. Are we treating these people equally? Depends on how it is worded. Most propositions are so skewed with legal wording that many people have no idea what they are even voting on. Notice how the ';yes'; always appears above the ';no'; on any ballot. I assume that is exactly why it did not pass in Calf.

I know I could have used a life line on a couple of propositions I had to vote on. They were very confusing and for the voter who does not entirely understand it, voting yes is much easier as it is the top selection.

If a person only has a religious ceremony when they get married then they aren't legally married, That is why one has to get a license and has other paperwork to sign at a religious wedding. Well the people voted and their vote counted and same sex marriage was voted down. Now time to work on civil unions laws to get more rights for any oen who want to share live and property together without the marriage stigmata.

Edit: only reason the gay community wants the label of marriage is so that it appears that the acceptance of being gay is ok to the Christian community. It has nothing to do with rights or privileges. Civil unions are the way to go it is the path of least resistance. Courts might be there to rule on the protection of minority but to deny the right of the majority is just as bad. Proponents claim that it is retroactive, making all of the same-sex marriages legally performed in 2008 null and void; opponents to Prop 8 say it is not retroactive and those marriages are still legal, moreover Prop 8 opponents argued before the California Supreme Court - the same court that made same sex marriage legal - that Proposition 8 is actually a major revision to the state constitution and should have gone through the legislature (their argument centers around the equal protections clause and the fact that Prop 8 removes one segment of the population from being equal).

That really is the problem with ';the will of the majority';. Courts are in place to protect minority interests and have done so many times in the past. It was the courts that removed segregation; suppose a popular majority voted it back in - do you think that should stand legally? The sad truth is that many people of color voted for Prop 8 to limit marriage to one man and one woman without realizing that they were setting the precedent (should the Supreme Court uphold it) for their own rights and privileges to be curtailed.

Right now, the California Supreme Court is weighing its decision on Prop 8 and the legality of same sex marriage. No word has come as to when that decision will be made public.

Ok, from a (Christian) theological point of view, the sole purpose of sex is to procreate. The reason that ';recreational'; forms of sex are frowned upon is that they often cause problems, both emotional and physical, and serve no purpose other than self gratification. In other words, you are not serving God by having sex for your own desires. Recreational forms of sex within a marriage are not (in general) forbidden, but they are considered unnecessary. (Some denominations are much stricter than others.)

Contraception is allowed by some churches not because recreational sex is allowed, but because these churches recognizes that families are a huge responsibility and allow for some planning to occur.

';To spill ones seed'; is not confusing at all. It is a reference to masturbation. At one time, it was thought that men had a limited number of sperm and that ';wasting it'; through masturbation, instead of using it for it's intended purpose of creating life, was an affront to God and His plan. Why are you not happy? How long have you been together? Are their kids involved? Lots of Questions. Think long and hard, and get counseling first. A Few points first: If kids involved, it isn't just about you. Finances? Everyone is having hard times. Abusive? Then that is the one thing i say yes to right off the bat. Just bored, counseling. Your under 25, stop listening to your friends who are not married for advice. You made a commitment, and a life long one. Divorce is way to easy today, and so few try to work out their problems anymore.

First let me say that a marriage without prayer and God is gonna be weak from the beginning. The devil will always be there to fool you like things are going fine but in the back ground he will be hard at work. My wife and I pray together at least twice a day and many, many, times a day we tell each other how much we love each other and what a blessing it is to have God as the center of our marriage. We only fuss about who loves who the most then take turns win-n or lose-n. We did not go into marriage as many people do today thinking well if it doesn't work we can get divorced. We went into with the intentions of staying married for life.

We have 4 grown children, and 9 grand children.

Suzy I am really sorry about what you are going through with this cheating husband you have. It's not your fault and you shouldn't blame yourself at all. If he chose to cheat then he obviously has issues and has disrespected your union and your family.

I believe you can try some counseling at a church with a pastor, if he is reluctant and doesn't want to try at all then you should just maybe back off and start trying to move on. Realize that everything in life is temporary, everything changes. It's sad I know but nothing is the same forever. Been there and done it. It's 5 years later and everytime I think of my now happy family, I'm so glad we were able to make it work. Keep in mind that you cannot do it alone. Don't expect that you'll probably ever forget, but if he's truly sorry, you have to try to forgive him on a daily basis. As long as the love is there, don't give up. You won't regret it. My husband also said and did so many things I never thought he would but our relationship now is stronger and better than I ever thought it could be. Not to say that it's going to be easy to get through this, but hard work does pay off. Good luck!
If he says it is over and he is not willing to work on your marriage please don't waste a precious moment of your life trying to hold on to something that is not worth taking a pee on (him for cheating). You deserve better!

My husband's parents' divorce after 26 years greatly affected us when we were engaged (that's when they got divorced) to the point he called it off. His mom's infidelity when he was a child also made him paranoid about me in the early stages of our relationship. Plus she was abusive so he has major issues with having kids.

My childhood was pretty standard, parents had a happy marriage, so I don't think I'm affected much.What child-hood issue most affects you marriage?
Probably the biggest thing from my childhood is the infidelity that my mother did. When the person that is supposed to teach you not to lie and cheat does that very thing it can be very difficult because the moral fight that goes on in your head. It tears at you as a child because as you grow up and have romantic relationships. It makes trust in the other person that much harder.

As a parent when you grow older you can either go two directions... choose the same path that parent did... or you go the complete opposite direction and do not condone that type of behavior at all.
I was lonely in my childhood, or at east I remember feeling very lonely cause my parents couldn't find as much time for me as I would like. My mom was still in school, and my dad wasn't ready to be a parent I guess. It all worked out eventually and we have a happy family, but I easily feel left out or alone. Naturally, I chose a husband who'd always leave me alone cause he's too busy.

My parents were big champions of saving the marriage cause they eventually worked their hings out. It kept me in a bad marriage for way longer than necessary.

Well we are divorced now.

However, there are good examples too. My family sees it inappropriate to hit each other or use swear words inside the house under any circumstances. It set some standards for me. I walk away from abusive situations while many other women tend to get stuck in them.
The fact that my father abandoned my mother and us kids just after I started high school has made it very difficult for me to put complete financial trust in my husband. Although I don't show it (other than handling all the bills simply because he's not very good at record keeping), the prospect of him making more money than me is actually uncomfortable. Silly I know and I know it's only right for the husband to take most of the financial responsibility but I need the security of having my own income (to contribue to the both of us of course). Compared to other issues with other not so fortunate individuals, I'd say this is a pretty minor thing, but I do want to be able to trust in his financial capability completely. He's moving up in his firm very quickly and will definitely be making much more money than I soon. I need to get over this and be happy. It really is a good thing. Other than that, I trust him COMPLETELY. Even with my life.
My mother's infidelity, mental illness, and abuse towards me affected my life greatly. It took a very long time for me to fully trust my husband and I have a lot of social issues. He deals with a lot of my baggage, but he's so fantastic about it and never pushes me further than I'm comfortable going in any situation.
My mother was a very affectionate woman, and I remember she instilling that in her daughters,. I tried that in my marriage but he wouldn't except it..He just wasn't a lovable person...I think this affected my marriage, I stayed lonely and therefore angry. In hindsight, I knew he wasn't the man I was supposed to be with, but I had sons by him and I was willing to except the way he treated me...after all, I married at 15, I was young and stupid...
My husband had a verbally abusive childhood, sometimes physical abuse by a stepfather. He often still gets depressed and isn't sure how to handle his emotions. It sucks because there's nothing i can do except listen.

My childhood was ruined by a drunk mother who still continues to drink to this day. I'm always having to re-live those days when she calls me up wasted. We try not to let it bother us but the best we can do is have long in depth conversations about it all.

Luckily we have each other.
My dad was a cross country driver and when my husband and i got married, he wanted to do it too, i said no way no how, we split up and then i went and got my cdl and then we got back together. I felt that i was being abandoned when we were first married, like he won't be there for me like my dad wasn't. Now though, i want him to go back OTR because he can make good money and help get us out of debt. I know it won't be forever.
I was abused badly physically and mentally by both my parents...oh yeah my ';real'; dad gave me up to my adoptive father who in turn beat me and treated me horrible...my mother was a shrew and both of them drank....So my biggest problem is I think he is always going to leave (thanks dad #1)...or hit me (thanks dad #2) or mentally treat me badly(thanks mom)......My husband is wonderful about accepting all this....counseling helped....
we were always really poor and the food was always going bad so I have a hard time eating left overs or when the milk gets to the bottom I will just toss it out. I always go to the extreme to make sure food is fresh in my house for my own kids.

My father was wierd about money (overcautious) and as a reaction I tend to be too free with it and don't like keeping track of it, and that has been a problem from time to time.

I am the product of interracial marriage, and because of that I am against it. I am a very light skinned half black female, I have soft hair and green eyes so I am often seen as white and treated poorly by blacks. Also white people are very racist and make a lot of racist jokes when they think they are with only other white people and I have lost friends my entire life because I will not put up with racism around me. It's very hard being mixed race and holding on so dearly to both cultures because I am not accepted by either. The way I feel about interracial dating/marriages is the same exact way I feel about same race dating/marriages.. The only differences would be physical. We're all people, the color of our skin doesn't matter. No one race is better than another. Race is just an identity that you associate yourself with and should play no part in who you date or marry. As time goes on, interracial dating/marriage has become a more widely accepting occurrence. Racism is still alive and well, and when it is not seen as a part of the dominating class in society, then interracial dating/marriage will be a thing of the past.How do u feel about interracial dating/marriage?
It's the person and not the race that matters. People often say that it's the cultural differences that worry them about interracial dating/marriage and I don't think many people would argue that white people and black people and asian people and Native American people (the list goes on and on) are typically raised differently with different values. Some values may be from their backgrounds (white people may have european values/culture while black people may have african values/culture). That sometimes causes problems and conflict, but I still believe it depends on the individual. I don't think it's a problem as long as the people are compatible. I think sometimes the family backgrounds and cultural differences may cause problems, but it's not a big deal to me until I get into the situation myself. I hear a lot about domestic cases in many interracial marriage and living together situations, but I've never dated someone outside my race or lived with someone outside my race, so I suppose I don't really have an opinion whether it's right or wrong. Who am I to judge another person's relationship? Once I get into the situation myself, I will have a better formed opinion about it. But right now it's not effecting me and, therefore, doesn't bother me one way or the other if people want to be in an interracial relationship.

At one time marriage was based on religion, this is true. However, due to separation of church and state, there is no religious binding to the legal act of marriage.

Hello, did you people read the story? The people of California already voted on and passed a law banning gay marriage, but now A judge has overturned it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but I do have my opinion, regardless though the VOTERS passed the ban and it sets a dangerous precedent for voted on bills to be disregarded by a judges opinion.

I know this is probably a dumb question...I found on my counties webpage the qualifications and rules for obtaining a marriage license and it has the form available, but doesn't say what actual office you need to turn it into. When I tried to call the courthouse I didn't know which office to be directed to. Also the women in our state have to have a blood test done prior. If anyone knows anything about that, such as are is there a certain place you have to have it done at...I know it's probably different in different places, but I keep finding new things to stress about lol.Where do you actually get a marriage license?

The Clerk's office at City/Town Hall for the marriage license. Check your local web page for hours and specifications, as well.

I would call them directly to find out exactly what the specifications are for the blood test. I was under the understanding that most states have done away with this. If not, you can go to any lab where they draw blood and tell them it's for your impending wedding. They probably know exactly what needs to be done. (It's to test for communicable and sexually transmitted diseases. Basically, AIDS and other deadly, transferable diseases.)

There are a lot of different forms of marriage. Since so few people seem to know about this one (or simply flat out deny it), I'll mention specifically that there are a few, one in particular (or at least there was before civ crushed it) tribe in Africa where the only marriages were same-sex marriages. One tribe consisted of two villages with men in one and women in another. Opposite-sex contact was usually limited to select times for ceremonial breeding periods. Cheating on a spouse (these select breeding periods weren't considered cheating) was such a huge no-no that it was seen as dishonoring the entire tribe.

Other marriages are your more well known marriages of a single male and female, while others are a single male with many females and a few with a single female with many males. Also there are marriages were they are expected to be monogamous, where only the female was expected to be monogamous, or where monogamy wasn't an issue either way.

The Iqamat of the Salaat would have been said (already recited) and Imam Mahdi will call Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) for Imamat (to lead the prayer), but he (Hadhrat Isa (A.S.)) will instead tell Imam Mahdi to lead the prayer since the Iqamat of that Salaat has already been said for him. Thus Imam Mahdi will lead the prayer, and Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will follow him. After the ruku, he will make this statement: ';Allah has killed Dajjal and the Muslims have appeared.';

The Killing of Dajjal and the Victory of the Muslims

After the completion of Fajr Salaat, Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will open the door behind him where Dajjal accompanied by 70,000 Yahudis will be. He will indicate with his hand to move away between him (Hadhrat Isa (A.S.)) and Dajjal. Dajjal will then see Hadhrat Isa (A.S.). At that time every Kafir on whom the breath of Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will reach, will die. His breath will reach up to the distance of his eyesight. The Muslims will then come down from the mountains and break loose on the army of Dajjal. There will be war, Dajjal will retreat, and Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will pursue Dajjal. Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will have two flexible swords and one shield with him and with these he will kill Dajjal at the Gate of Hudd. He willl show the Muslims the blood of Dajjal which will get on his shield. Eventually the Yahudis will be selected and killed. The swine will be killed and the cross broken. People will revert to Islam. Wars will end, and people will return to their respective countries. One Jamaat (group) of Muslims will remain in his service and companionship.

Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will go to Fajr Rawha and perform Haj or Umrah (or both) from there. He will also go to the grave of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and present his greetings and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) will reply. People will live comfortable lives. The wall of Yajooj and Majooj will then break.

Yeah pretty much. The thing is, it hasn't gotten up to the SCOTUS yet. In California it was declared unconstitutional (gay marriage ban) but this year there is a prop. Yes it should be legalized from a Government perspective. Really the church and state are seperate entities. I can see nothing harmful in allowing individuals who want to spend the rest of their lives together, as a married couple from a legal stand point. Here is why:

It surveys the history of the way different kinds of relationships have evolved between people in the US over time, and how the law eventually catches up with the reality of the way people are acting.

Even if the overall arguments and details are too much, it will be very enlightening for you to see from the introductory chapters, and from scanning the rest, that relationships do change (when I was in college there was no ';hooking up'; for courts to consider, and when my parents were in college, there were still laws against inter-racial marriage, just to name a few).

So yes, people in real life do create new kinds of relationships, and they do eventually get recognized by the courts and the law.

Ask the people who are against gay marriage how they feel about interracial relationships and marriage? The same exact arguments they espouse were used as late as the 1960s to prohibit inter-racial marriages, by their parents and grandparents, and maybe by them if they are old enough.

But now the law says it is fine, and few if anyone really complains.

So shall it be with gay marriages - in a few decades time, people will be ashamed of the very things they wrote against it here and elsewhere.

Unlike when their grandparents and parents objected in times past, search engines will never forget what they said that will later be seen to be extremely hateful speech.

A legal marriage is a contractural partnership between two people. If two people across the street or hallway are married or not does not affect me in any way. Therefore, it is none of my business. A religious marriage is between two people and their religion. Again, it is none of my business. The obligations of the partners to others (children, for example) are there whether they are married or not. A same sex marriage is more of a social and religious issue than a legal one. There is no reason for it to be illegal.

I will be traveling to Honduras with my three childre, two are from my previous marraige and their father has no contact with them. In the divorce documents I am declared to be their sole guardian, so should I have any problems obtaining passports and traveling? you have sole custody, you should not have any problem obtaining their passports. if you did not have sole custody there is also a form that you could complete stating why the father could not appear.
If the divorce papers state that you have full custody of the children then you should be fine. There may be some extra documents for you to fill out for the passports but just bring the divorce papers to the passport interview and it should be fine.
NO as long as you can back things up with the court docs. Calll 1800 fed info and ask for the passport info center. ask them whatyou may need to submit to get passports in this situation.
i dont see where there should be any problems. He is quite obviously completely out of the picture. Im a Marine and have helped numerous others get their passports and such. I have seen many different stories that would seem impossible to get one. They usually help you to an extent and dont give you the run around. so yours should be fairly easy.

Are there programs that the state is in charge of that would be offered to the people that make up the marriage? Like some form of insurance. etc. Also, are such programs not available to not-legally-recognized couples because the state forbids private companies from offering it, or because the state provides the insurance itself.

I'm trying to find out if marriage license is legal. Wife did not use current legal name on marriage certificate. Here comes the sad part, the first time we supposedly got married, we weren't really married because she was still married to somebody else. So two years later she convinced him to ';renew'; their vows. Only thing is her name as it appears on the license is not the legal name she uses. We have child support court documents with a totally different name. Trying to find out if the ';second'; license is legal. Forget about the whole marriage under false pretenses. The question is ';what is her current legal name';? She can't legally change her name through marriage when she is still married to someone else. The name on her license should be her previous name before she got legally married again. Her last name should be the same as yours now, but only since you got married legally. You should be fine. Just get the name changed on the child support documents to match.

What I meant by the religious aspect exacerbating the problem is: many opponents of gay marriage are most strongly opposed to the idea because of their religion. Religion influences politicians, lobbyists, and laypeople. If it the religious aspect were removed, it would become less controversial.

They need support in a larger community to get through the rough times when they are liable to break up. If their relatives and friends and church or religion support them in being true to each other, and getting through hard times, then I think it influences them not to throw their partner away or betray them. Every time I've seen a ';cheat'; situation, someone close, a sneaky supposed 'friend', suggested it when the person was down or feeling unappreciated.

Because these days people are getting married for the wrong reasons. It used to be to start a family, which both partners had the common goal of get married have kids support each other as a family is more efficient. Now people get married simply because 2 people love each other. So when things get tough, people get older, uglier, bitter towards each other, there is no reason to stay together. The breakdown of family values is having a devastating effect on society, older people are no longer respected by the young, lawlessness abounds, everyone does what they like with no thought for their neighbours, politicians and the government are viewed as corrupt. The leaders of the church are out of touch, out of mind and out to lunch.

This scenario is not taken from last weeks' tabloid press but from the disturbed times of the prophet Hosea in the 8th century before Christ.

Hosea's message shows there is hope for us today because God can be trusted to win back the love of His covenant people despite a bleak outlook. Hosea's own disastrous marriage 'speaks' to us of God's constant love and perfect judgement. Yet the ones who forsake the covenant must repent. One of the saddest things we see is the way some people (appearing to be pious) point their finger at those who go astray and refusing to move towards them, to reach out to them in love. They speak of God's love and forgiveness, yet have harsh rules and shunning tactics for those who break their own rules. Such ones have learned nothing of God's covenantal love.

It was no accident that Jesus quoted Hosea 6:6 at least twice (Mat. 9:13; 12:7) and alluded to it on another occasion (23:23). The appeal, 'Have mercy', was one that seemed to have unusual power with Him (9:27; 15:22; 17:15; 20:30,33). Mercy is not mentioned much in the Mosaic legislation but it is a part of 'the knowledge of God' which is superior to offerings. True knowledge of God is not simply the accumulation of data about God. It is life-changing awareness of His holy presence, practical realisation of His greatness, empowering by His influence. Hosea saw the failure to acknowledge God as Israel’s basic problem. God’s relation to Israel was that of love . One good parallel I can think of is Ted Haggard. Give him a few more years and he'll be claiming god told him to sleep with male prostitutes and smoke meth. It amazes me how something like visiting a prostitute can be turned into a spiritual lesson - it's nothing more than a guy visiting a prostitute and then trying to justify it after the fact.

The only lesson to be learned is that people sometimes manage to do whatever they want while claiming to have god's backing. Hosea was just a man.
yes the Israelites commited spiritually adultery and Jehovah still took them back as his people just as God had Hosea take his wife back even though she committed immorality and had children from other men. The link is that we should forgive others for their mistakes and take them back just as Jehovah did with the Israelites. After Hosea's wife had left him to return to her life of prostitution, God told Hosea to go and get her back. Hosea's wife was like Israel. Israel was being unfaithful to God. God wanted to bring them back, though, and restore them to a right relationship with Him. Likewise, Hosea was to go and get his wife back, to restore a right relationship with her.

A key point to consider is that it is Hosea who takes the initiative to get his wife back. Likewise, it is God who takes the initiative to restore His wandering children.

I think there are fewer problems with wills and benefits being transferred to the partner when it is a marriage; civil unions do not afford the same protections under the law which is why people are trying so hard to get that passed.

It depends on the database that your are searching. Most of them like Ancestry, have little boxes for you to put the information in and you simply fill them in with as much information as you know.How can I do an online search for my french ancestors birth, death, marriage and census records of the 1800s?
I live in France and have been researching my own ancestry for 5 years. As far as websites, Ancestry.fr exists but at the moment it is rather limited and only in French. If you don't read and write the language reasonably well this is a difficult task.

For the most part you need to know the exact village where your ancestor came from. Then you need to go to the Departmental Archives. For example, my ancestor was born in Blienschwiller which is in the Bas Rhin (Lower Rhine department of the Alsace) so I have to go to Strasbourg to the Archives. It is there that I can scan through the microfilms.

An alternative is if you know the village and the date of birth, marriage, or death you can write to the city hall (called Le Maire or Hotel de Ville) to request a copy of the archive in question. Most of the communal offices are short staffed so it could take a while plus you need to make the request in French, pay for the copies in Euros, and more than likely send a self-addressed stamped envelop (have to use French stamps).

Ok if that is not depressing enough, let me share some of the details of how the records work. Napolean Bonapart established the system of civil registries. After 1793 all births, marriages and deaths had to be registrered in a civil registry as aposed to the church. Unfortunately over the years lots of the registries were destroyed due to wars and conflicts. Any information prior to 1793 is only to be found in the church registries.

On the positive side, nothing will ever replace the emotional feeling that you will receive the day you touch, the registry that was signed by you ancestor.

Learn to read and write French, as for online, again you will have to be able to read French to use French Internet search engines to find if any of those records have been transcribed, scanned and uploaded to the internet. Also be prepared to pay fees because it isn't cheap to travel to areas and gather records, upload and keep them on the net. Remember 2 World Wars have been fought on French soil so good luck.

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA.

I used www.familytreedna.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program.
Obviously talking to living ancestors and going through the shoe boxes that might be laying around are good ways to start. Once you do that I would contact the nearest Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints(Mormons) in your area. Ask them where the nearest Family History Center is. Take the information that you have and go there for help. It is free and there are some very good genealogists that volunteer there and are happy to help you in any way. The great thing is that you do not have to be a member of the church and it is all free including the online data-bases. Trust me on this, that is the best way to go!

You shouldn't be against it. Many people that are against it bring in their religion, but often do not follow as closely as they should considering how they throw it in other people's faces. Look how long and hard women fought for equality in America, and technically it hasn't given them complete equality either. Also, look at how some are very racist and believe they are better than the other race(s). So, there will most likely always be some people out there that like to see others beneath them. I agree but I have heard some arguements against it.

I'm not married yet (134 days!) but...

1. I wish I would have. It would mean a lot more to me.

2. Some of my friends have. And while they are curious about other people, it's not regret. It's more like ';what else can we do together'; and their curiosity is filled with cosmo, literature, erotica, etc. Knowing them is what makes me wish I had waited! One of my friends, for example...is 30. She's getting married in June. She's BEAUTIFUL and has had plenty of opportunities. She's so excited.

Really, though, it's up to individuals. Is waiting worth it? I've heard many say yes.

Those that didn't wait...say no. But it may just be a case of the ';grass being greener';.

That is something only you and your partner can decide.

It is absolutely possible to rebuild trust and compassion after affairs....AND it if often extremely difficult to do so.

I have not been in that situation but in some ways it may be easier to save a marriage where both have cheated than a case where only one spouse cheated.

When only one spouse cheats then the other feels betrayed and may never trust them again. One is a cheater and one is a victim of cheating.

If they both cheated then they both are guilty of cheating and both are victims of cheating. Maybe they can both admit they screwed up, forgive each other and get some marital counseling and recommit to each other and being faithful.
It is totally up to both of you as to whether you get married or divorced . Just remember this , divorce can definitely be avoided if both of you are ready to admit that you both messed up and that living a perfect life is impossible , and that your doing the same act for revenge is just as bad as doing it because you want to .

You both were in the wrong and a mistake for many people . If you love each other , forgive yourself and forgive her and move on with your life . You were both equally wrong so admit that and move forward in a life of love .

Everyone and their situation is different. It depends on how the two people feel about it. If both people felt that pain they caused and truly regret the decisions that they have made, then it might be the ideal situation to repair the damage because they both have put each other through hell. In marriages where only one person is unfaithful itimpossiblempossilble for the one that had the affair to understand the sense of pain and betrayal that their actions caused. Things are usually changed forever... No if both spouses strayed maybe they can work on the reasons that they both wanted something different... they might be able to view their affairs and a single act, learn from it, and move on... based on the history it will be a crap shoot.
it depends. if you both are mature enough to talk through it and understand that both sides have learned their lesson, then it might still work. also, trust is an issue. if trust is gone, so is the marriage. dont try to build a relationship with no trust. it just doesnt work. if you too cant trust eachother anymore or one side or both dont understand that you both have learned their lesson i would consider a divorce. it really depends on how you two still feel about eachother and if you still really care about eachother enough to be married.
Yes I think it is possible to save a marriage after both cheat. It's likely one spouse only cheated to get back at the other spouse. I'd say the best way is marriage counseling. Talk about the things openly. Usually bad communication is the real problem. It will be hard - but if your willing to try I say go for it.
I feel it is possible, it will take a lot of time and trust for both of you to get on the right track but it never hurts to go counseling. It will help show what was missing for both parties to want someone different, and try mending what is broke.

Marriage does not make an illegal alien legal. In fact, that is a good way to get caught and deported and banned from re-entry.

The illegal alien would have to return to their home country, apply for their spouse to immigrate to their country (because a married couple must live together for one spouse to sponsor the other!). After a year or more (10 years if you have a ban) living in the other country, the US-citizen spouse could then apply for the non-US citizen spouse to immigrate under spousal immigration rules.

It takes a lot of time, energy, and money to raise a child. You have to divide your time between your child and spouse. You may end up neglecting your spouse due to the needs of your child. You or your spouse may have to work longer hours to pay the bills. How has having a child impacted your marriage?Did having children negatively impact your marriage?
Neither my husband or I feel ready for kids...I'm 30, he's 38 and we've been married 8 years. I think marriage does suffer when kids enter the picture because it takes away from the marriage itself - suddenly there is another person to worry about. And of course, the responsibilities, the expenses go up...I think it would be extremely difficult. And that's why we're happy just the way we are. Depends how you look at it.

All the things you say are true, and your relationship (and your life) will change for the negative in those regards.

On the other hand, you have other opportunities:

Trips to the zoo, Bedtime stories, and a sense of being a family that you would not have without children. Birthdays and the holidays are 1000 times more fun with kids around.

So you lose somethings and you gain somethings, the important thing to remember is having a child is irreversable. So while most of us eventually end up taking the leap, make sure you are ready to give the lifestyle you currently have first.
having children can be awesome. they can be an outlet when you're sad or mad, and your spouse is busy. children are actually really smart and sometimes have less stress in life, giving them more time to think about peoples feelings etc. also, when your child gets older, they could get a job and help support the family too.

however, sometimes children can make money an issue, especially with the economic problems. children might start creating fights between the parents and eventually will probably choose their favorite parent, making the other one feel left out.

still, having children can be very happy and give you a smile on your face. they'll always have a joke or a new story and hopefully be glad to share it with you. when they grow up, that may be a different story, but its worth it while its there.

well children have enhanced your marriage. that's why you wait till you both are ready before you have children. We actually feel more complete with them. Yes we both work full time jobs, we share household chores, and it all works. We have our children in the bed by 8:30pm and anytime after that is ours. we talk and cuddle. We see having time together just as important as time with our kids
well, after my wife got pregnant the first time, she never wanted to have sex again. that was 10 years ago. we now have 2 kids, 8 %26amp; 10.

we got married for all the right reasons, and it's been a totally crappy 10 years for me because she forgot about me and she forgot about her own sexuality. i thought it would change after the kids were maybe 3 or 5 years old. wrong...

we are finally going to counseling, but there are a lot of bad memories and a lot of bad momentum to overcome.
I love my children. I was a mother before I was a wife so my husband always came 2nd to the kids. It was alright with him though because he was too selfish to want to hang with the kids and I anyway. I wouldn't change a thing about my children except I wish I could have had them with the man I am married to now. He's an excellent father and grandfather to both his kids and mine.

yes, attention is given to children after they are born - but what kind of married people do not focus on themselves and their relationship too? I cannot wait to have children with my husband.

Perhaps it is just my culture - but once children are there - you are bound by something so speical, for life!
Yes, people need to realize it pulls you apart more than together. Unless you have great team work together.
