If You Support Gay Marriage, Then What About Polygamy and Incest?

I had this talk with a friend of mine who asked me if I support gay marriage then what about the other alternative relationships between consenting people? If gay marriage is allowed, shouldn't incest and polygamy be allowed as well?





Sex with children and animals are out of the question because they cannot legally consent to sexual relations.





However, if you want to have more than one husband/wife why can't you? If a brother and sister want to consent to sex why can't they? Where do we stop the barrier?If You Support Gay Marriage, Then What About Polygamy and Incest?
I don't see any problem with polygamy as long as the partners are truly all invested in the idea, and that can be determined with interviews, which is how the government deals with marriages between Americans and foreigners.





As far as brothers and sisters, this is a farfetched situation and I've never heard of it happening. When it does, then we can talk about it.





Ultimately it's a silly argument that one thing allowed is connected to whether another thing should be allowed, but it's ALL up for discussion. Society keeps changing, the dialog continues. Incest.......I know a family where the brothers are banging their sister and she also gives them oral sex. Their father is an alcoholic and he also had sex with his own daughter and the Mother does nothing about it.





Polygamy?...with so many love affairs on the market why marry more than one when you have three or four already?





Gay Marriage?........It was only a matter of time that these groups that are largely supported nation wide would ask for something that was not actviely being performed. By asking, they got their wish for the simple fact it's supported largely. Were not talking about an isolated subject...it's a group, a very large group organization that supports it and trust me on this...it was large enough that Congress even listens to it. I can't get much from Congress to speak for Veterans much less Gay marriage, but a large group can make things happen. It's called Democracy

Sex with children and animals is very wrong. That is hurting someone or some animal. Incest wrong because it leads to poor breeding and its just gross and sick. As for Polygamy I don't see anything wrong with it but its not for me. They are kind of like swingers. I say whatever floats your boat. PS you can have more then one wife in Idaho and Utah the Mormon states.

The barrier is this: We live in a country that is free. You may not be able to get married if you're gay in YOUR town or city, but somewhere in this world they DO allow gay marriage, polygamy, AND incest. I'm NOT gay, but I don't have any issues with what sexual preference people choose to be. But I do have issues with men that are taking this whole polygamy WAY out of definition and context of polygamy. Incest started among the Amish and once again, if thats you're beliefs to get with your sister/cousin/brother/whatever, hey thats why we live in the USA. Freedom of choice to do whatever you feel to do. Why does this bother you so?
So because you do not support gay marriage then you want to take it to extreme. You don't make alot of sense. When brothers and sisters are having sex they are making retarded children... When gays are having sex they probably are not making babies at all. There are many gays out there that are more down to earth them most of us.... You may consider it immoral but you really can't judge people on their lifestyles. Different lifestyles and people in this world is what makes it what it is today...

you cant have more than one husband or wife because of religious politicians writing the laws. the law will only except a marriage between one man and one woman just like the bible... coincidence? i think not. same reason gays cant get married. and brother and sister can have sex if they want, it would just be beyond sick and potentially dangerous to any child they may conceive. i support whatever makes people happy as long as no one gets hurt.
Gay marriage is a little bit different than screwing your sister and messing with the gene pool. Incest would allow fathers to have sex with their children (of legal age) and a variety of other things that would be absolutely horrifying. As far as polygamy..I'm not for it but I don't think it's nearly as bad as incest.

Also, you touch on another aspect of the issue. Are marriages validated by social opinion, with all its irrational whims and ugly predjudices, or by the law? Should private, legal matters be determined by every-changing public opinion, or by legal statues that have been studied and debated by educated lawyers and judges for decades?
I support none of them...all marriage is bad anyways.





Why get married anyways...the way I see it...they could live together and if they want to split...they just can. They have a FREE PASS!! They are blowing it!

Just listen to all of you. At one point in the past everyone believed gay marriage to be disgusting and unnatural.....who's to say that given enough time and brainwashing people won't believe the same about polygamy and incest?

Well, most of our laws have been constructed from the Bible. The Lord said two people who marry are devoted to each other until death do they part. However, not everyone believes in the bible, and marriage has much more to it than just religion, so divorce was created.





I think the point you are trying to make is just silly. But I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought it through like this myself.





I support gay marriage. But it has been taboo for so long, now that people are accepting it what will be next, right?





The way I see it if two people love each other, then they should be aloud to be with each other.





The reason Polygamy is frowned upon is because of the religious aspects of it. Most people think one person should have one person, not two or three. I feel Polygamy breaks our moral compass. If a man or woman can have more than one partner, then what stops them from cheating all together? Idk, to each there own right? If they all consent to it, what do others care?





Incest can cause birth defects and all that jazz, so that is instantly ruled out.

Gay marriage can not cause damage to future generations. They can not combine their same sex genes to create offspring but as a loving couple can adopt and give a child a happy home where there was not one before. Therefore i support gay marriage.





Incest can hurt future generations. If the two relatives choose to have children then the likelihood of them having birth defects and chomosome abnormalities is higher than in unrelated couples. Whilst having children with an unrelated person does carry a risk of congenital birth defects these risks can escalate very quickly when the same defective gene is able to be passed from both parents. Also when the children of incest subsequently choose to have children, their elevated risk gets passed on to the next person regarless of if the gene is active in themselves. This is why i do not support incest.





Polygamy can harm future generations. A child growing up in a polygamous family still has parents who love them but they also have an array of step siblings so to speak. Your mother isn't treated as a single special person because your step brothers mother is your mother as well and so is your step sisters mother and so on. Where is your individuality if you are just another mother? A boy growing up believeing that women are a commodity to gather as you wish to make children fosters control over respect doesn't it? Giving children an unbalanced view of the value of human beings cannot be healthy for the greater good of the world. How would you feel if the way to solve worl peace was for each man to get as many women as possible pregnant so we could all live as one? Unrealistic i know but i wouldn't feel comfortable sharing myself with a man who has been around town. Also how quickly do you think STIs would transfer in polygamous groups? Can that be healthy either?





So in essence if a relationship, no matter how loving or well intentioned can cause medical harm to a future generation then i do not approve. Sexually Transmitted Infection transfer in polygamous relationships and genetic mutations in incestual relationships are enough for me to say no thankyou.
