How many times has the gay community been able to successfully fight off an attempt to ban gay marriage in a state constitution? I mean once a gay marriage ban made it to the ballot have they EVER won?
Yes I know that the candidates win, there are 732 in North America...and yes I know they win some initiatives like in Oregon in 1988 and California in 1978 but I am specifically asking about gay marriage bans put to a public vote.Has the gay community ever won a fight against a gay marriage ban?
They have chosen in every instance to not fight it on the federal level. They are waiting for the judiciary to liberalize a little more on the issue. But they have not ever won a state vote.
But then again women's suffrage was rejected about 100 times, civil rights were rejected in every state, ending slavery never won a single state vote (and was put on a number of times).
But that's the reason we have a federal government in the first place. To do what is right.
