Government shouldn't recognize marriage in the first place?

Who agrees with me?

Government shouldn't be sanctioning any relationships, whether gay, straight, polygamy, incest, etc. Marriage should only be a private matter, and concerning the benefits that go with marriage, there shouldn't be any. Couples could work through any disputes by themselves.Government shouldn't recognize marriage in the first place?
Agree100% -- they latched onto it so they could tax the process.Government shouldn't recognize marriage in the first place?
Sure. And there is no reason not to recognize multiple husbands or wives either. And then what reason is there for the state to tell you how you should or shouldn't raise your kids? They should just but out, right? And what constitutes abuse is really a moral judgment, codified into law (as are most laws). Why should the state have _any_ say on how or what constitutes a family? Who are we to impose our morality on what goes on behind closed doors?

Severely declining birth rates in Western nations (including Westernized nations like Japan) are ensuring the end of those societies within a few generations. This is an unintended result of the destruction of the family. The nihilists and hedonists have won, to their own destruction. They have, by rejection of tradition, ensured the dominance of the cultures which embrace the traditions which the West has and is further rejecting. These cultures hate the nihilists and hedonists with a passion, and will oppress and destroy those who embrace such world views, as they already do in the countries they control.

It is ironic that the hedonists reject the very culture which enabled the rise of liberal culture in the first place.
The only reason I got married was to secure those government benefits, like not paying taxes on spousal gifts, social security or disability benefits when that time comes, cheaper employer-based health insurance, access to intensive care, power of attorney, joint rights to children, immigration and residency benefits... and that's just a few of the 1,100 rights you get with that license. Otherwise, why not just live together?

Most of those benefits are there for a reason and legal issues would be phenomenal if the government did not put those rights and benefits in place. There would have to be a different legal classification of the relationship in order to secure those privileges, which would essentially be government recognition of marriage, so you'd have done away with nothing. Not a bad idea, no government recognition of marriage, but it's just not feasible.
No.

I'm one of the 16% of people in this country that claim no religion. That doesnt' mean I value my long happy marriage any less.

Marriage is a civil contract as well as a personal commitment.

I'm sure if you were in a custody dispute with an irrational spouse you'd be first in line to have a court intervene based on your marital status.

I feel like I've earned my limited rights to my spouse's pension because of our commitment to his education and training.

When it comes time to decide what to do with his medical condition and he can't decide, I prefer the government to recognize me as his next of kin, not his mother.

You may lead some perfect life where there is never trouble and you never need outside influence, but watching people I know over the course of decades, you are alone in that status. Our laws have evolved for a reason.

If you don't like laws, I suggest you try Somalia.
Why not? They control every thing else. They will be controlling your heating and air conditioning in your home, they all ready tap your phones, satellites view what we are doing, etc.

Should they control abortions?

A couple of weeks ago I saw a clip on youtube about a woman who believed that the government was releasing the bird flu virus.. check it out @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpvD0EqYC… Initially, I thought this woman was driving around on paranoid road being that she didn’t provide any information that could be verified. Even though there is evidence of government funded labs housing deadly viruses. Well, Friday, I read about a virus that is freaking the people out in Mexico.. and it’s now hit America. Front page on the “Big News” networks.. i.e. CNN, Fox, etc. What! I asked. In between this time frame, I watched this documentary called, Behind the Big New @ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=… Just to give you an idea.. remember the headline news with Clinton and Monica and that woman in Arkansas .. Jones or something that was suing him for sexual harassment and whether or not he should be impeached for purgery.. blah blah blah.. remember? Cover up! Google Chinagate. Who knew? They did! If anyone truly believes that the subprime mortgages are the reason for the fall of the banking industry… i.e. the WORLD’S MARKET CRASHING, I regret to inform you that you bought a bunch of garbage being sold to you from the main stream media (CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox News, etc. etc. etc.) which are owned by members of the Bilderberg Group. You know.. the group that owns the Federal Reserve.. i.e. Central Bank.. the group whose goal is to establish a “New World Order.”

This is who is in control Bilderberg Group. You know.. the group that owns the Federal Reserve.

We’ve all had that feeling in our gut that something isn’t quite right here. I think it’s time for us to turn off the noise, and really listen to what’s going on before it’s to late to do something about it. I’m not sure about you, but I personally am not for the New World Order.

What to do you think??
Agreed. Marriage is a religious ceremony.

The state should issue licenses and recognize civil registrations.
No.

Government needs to recognize family units for huge gabunches of reasons.
Civil unions and domestic partnerships all the way...
Agree!
