What is the difference between a civil marriage license & a civil marriage ceremony?

License is the necessary legal paperwork. You wanna be legally wed? You have to get a license.

Click on your state for details. The site may not be updated, but phone numbers for the courthouses are at the bottom of the page. Call the courthouse, and ask for details.

Ceremony is the words said in front of an officiant. This is the ';I do'; part.

Civil ceremonies can take place at a courthouse, but they can also take place outdoors, in a home, or at the venue of the couple's choice.

Hope this helps! What is the difference between a civil marriage license %26amp; a civil marriage ceremony?
License is the paperwork. Ceremony is...well the ceremony. You can't just go in and sign papers, there must be some sort of ceremony behind it. Even if it's just a judge pretty much asking ';you know what you are doing right? Okay, I pronounce you man and wife'; So it's a little more official than that but it pretty much sums it up. Civil Ceremony just means there is no religion involved in it.What is the difference between a civil marriage license %26amp; a civil marriage ceremony?
If I am correct, I believe the ceremony is the ceremony and the license is the thing you need to obtain before you hold the ceremony.
Hi. The license is just that....a license ALLOWING you to marry.

Then, you need to have an actual ceremony....be it at a courthouse, in a garden or on a beach! That would be the civil marriage ceremony.
