Why do christians not believe in same sex marriage?

Not to be rude to christians or anything so dont take this the wrong way: the bible says that everyone is created equally but that all gay people should go to hell or whatever? whats up with that?? can someone please explain this for me?Why do christians not believe in same sex marriage?
Not all Christians think that way.

The Bible says very little about homosexuality as we know it today.

Some people will go great distances to watch the sunset only to see if they find a stain on it.

=0)Why do christians not believe in same sex marriage?

Turns out you DONT know the meaning of the word. Miriam Webster mocks you.

The truth is its not really about religion so much as compassion or thoughtfullness. Those people who value those things will want gay people to experience the fullness of joy as they do. Whether or not they are christians. In fact I might argue that most christians who dont want them to arent really christians.
I love honest inquiry Emily! Homosexual relationships are destructive to the human body. Everyone is created equal, that you have right! It is those that rebel against God that go to Hell, not just gays, but straights and religious people too! The human body is not designs for homosexual copulation. If you want proof of that just consider the host of diseases that the homosexual picks up that straights don't get. Your right, we should never get down on gays, but if we love them does it mean that we should tolerate self-destructive behavior? If someone was suicidal, wouldn't you want to prevent it?
Everyone is created equal. Everyone is created heterosexual. When people become gay it is for other reasons- they weren't created that way. Homosexuality is a sin because God says it is a sin. What causes a person to be gay can be complicated but it can be any number of things. I'll just give you one example: a young boy doesn't get the much needed male affirmation from his father (or a fatherly figure) and thus, spends much of his time with women. This can lead to other things, leading to homosexuality by his early teens.

Furthermore, while homosexuality is a sin, the people who practice are not necessarily going to hell. Whether or not you go to hell is a matter of if you believe in Jesus (in short terms). That said, most homosexuals are not born again christians but the two don't have to go hand in hand.
We don't believe in gay marriage because there are Scriptures in the Bible (both the Old and New Testament) that say its a sin against God. We believe that God would never create something that He says is a sin, and therefore never creates anyone to be gay...and yes, all people are created equal-sexuality is just one part of a person's makeup and not their full being 100%. People usually become gay because something happens when they are very young in their pysche at an age they won't remember it happening (this is probably why they think they were born that way) and is connected with something ';missing'; in the family relationships. Some are more prone to it than others, just as some are more prone to alochol abuse than others, but it doesn't mean God created that in them. Homosexuality is not the unpardonable sin and love should be given to gays as individuals, but homosexuality itself is equally as bad as fornication, lying and stealing, and every other sin that isn't the unpardonable one. The problem is because sexuality is involved-impulses that appear involuntary and ';pull'; you toward someone else of the same sex in an identical manner as heteroseuality ';pulls'; you toward members of the opposite sex, it SEEMS like you were born that way...but the Bible is the Word of God and God is not a liar, a person can sincerely ask and expect God to help them either change their orientation to be attracted to the opposite sex (they shouldn't expect the same sex attractions to necessarily completely fade away (because the devil will tempt us to do what we used to do no matter what it is-a glutton may not find it easy to never crave overeating again, for example)) but they can and sometimes do gain a ';second puberty'; and become attracted to the opposite sex equally or stronger than the same sex feelings-others are chosen to remain alone but God fills the void and they are content to live a sexless life with a special supernatural gift that makes them not feel anything at all sexually speaking and therefore not mind being celibate. So one can either be feeling nothing or have the heterosexual urges be dominant and I've heard testimonies of someone almost NEVER having gay urges anymore-she just wants a man now! But homosexuality is not something you can overcome without special supernatural help from God-it's not something you can do with ';secular'; help like a rehab for drug addicts for example-you have to get SPIRITUAL help to overcome it. The Bible says that Christ died for the entire world-including gays-and He loves the entire world including gays and it condemns violence-it isn't Christian to attack physically anyone or to mock them or make fun of them. The Bible also says Christians are also not to ';judge'; those outside the faith.
Because we know the definition of marriage. Look it up in the dictionary. Homosexual ';marriage'; is simply impossible by definition. Homosexual people who live moral lives don't go to hell any more than anyone else would. Heterosexual people who choose a life of sin will go to hell just as surely as homosexual persons who make such a choice.
The reason for marriage is because God put us here to procreate, a man and a man can not procreate the same way a woman and a woman can't procreate.

And if you are going to say what the bible states, at least do your homework before you start adding words into the bible that was never said. It does not say anything about people should go to hell. So whereever you are getting your information from, at least get it right.
God was quite clear that homosexuality was a sin. and not only a sin, but a sexual sin which God takes that type of sin very personal (so much so that when God was created the laws for the nation of Israel to follow the only sexual sin that doesn't have the punishment as death is fornication, and for that both people are required to marry)
The Bible does not say that homosexuals will not go to Hell.

Because if that were true.

We'd ALL go to Hell for all our other sins.

We ALL lead sinful lives.

Homosexuality is natural and found in animal behavior.

Now someone try to tell me that a gay monkey is deliberately trying to piss off God.
Actually, it's not that Christians don't believe in same sex marriage, they just think it's wrong.

And how very true, if everyone is equal, yet gays aren't, isn't that like saying: ';Everyone is created equally except for you';?

How ridiculous.
I'm not exactly Christian but to me it seems a little illogical. Even if evolution IS true why would we have the need to have two separate sexes to populate the earth? If men were supposed to be with men, wouldn't there only BE men on the earth? Same goes for women. A man needs a woman to procreate and obviously man and woman were made for each other so...
I read the previous answers before deciding to add my thoughts.

First I'm surprised that many of the answer state that ';God clearly says that homosexuality is wrong'; yet offer you no proof of this.

Christians oppose same sex marriage for the following reasons

1.) Homosexuality is a sin

1 Corinthians 6:9

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

Leviticus 18:22

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13

13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Romans 1:24-29

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality...

2.) It is a mockery to God's original design of marriage between one man and one woman.

Genesis 2:23-24

And Adam said:

“This is now bone of my bones

And flesh of my flesh;

She shall be called Woman,

Because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

See also EPHESIANS 5:31

Gen 1:27

27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

I think I have provided a prima facie basis for opposing same sex marriage from a biblical perspective. However, past sin in one's life only condemns a person if they do not accept Christ.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

This however does not mean that a person can accept Christ and continue willfully in a homosexual lifestyle.

Romans 6

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Why do christians not believe in murder?

Not to be rude to christians or anything so dont take this the wrong way: the bible says that everyone is created equally but that all murderers should go to hell or whatever? whats up with that?? can someone please explain this for me?
People do not go to Hell for being Gay. Jesus said whosoever believes in him can be saved. That's why I am saved, I trust Him for what He said and what he did.

Those who say that all Gay people go to Hell are setting themselves up for something awful.

Ezekiel 33

13 If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but then he trusts in his righteousness and does evil, none of the righteous things he has done will be remembered; he will die for the evil he has done.

I don't think all of them don't.

My parents are Catholic but they aren't very against it.

They're pretty apathetic about it. I mean, some of my family is totally against it, but not all.
God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

The Bible does not say all gay people should go to hell.

The Bible condemns the practice, not necessarily the people.
Because gay animals came from evolution and evolution is the work of the devil.
Because they don't like gays, why else.

They lack the persecution they so desperately need, to feed their complex; so they find another group to persecute.
Romans 1 speaks to God's view on homosexuality. However, it is not the unforgivable sin. Gays are not automatically condemned.
It's not christians, its anyone that believes in the Torah.... actually most religions arn't pro-homosexuality. It has no benifit to society either.
Because they live their life by an ancient instruction manual that was written by ignorant barbarians, rather than actually think for themselves and realize that being gay isn't a choice and it hurts no one.
You shouldn't lay it just on Christians honey, I know a lot of non-Christians who think the fag lifestyle is sick.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? It is not the Christians idea that gay marriage is wrong, it is God's.
