Can a marriage survive the husband ';coming out';?

One of my in laws has just come out and announced he is gay and he's been in a monogamous relationship with his childhood sweetheart(female) for over a decade.


My parents in law are hoping the marriage will survive but I'm not so sure. Can a marriage ever survive something like this?

99% No.. depending how open and honest the relationship is.. maybe his wife has known all these years? You see things like this on TV and sometimes it works.. But, I would not count on it..

Other marriages: gay guy + asexual woman or lesbian living as fake straight couple so families don't have to explain them to friends.

if he's gay, he isnt atracted to his wife. there is no way it can survive. by coming out he is basicly saying he is tired of living a lie and is ready to be with a guy now. i really dont think it can survive, unless they agree to some kind of open relationship or something.

There's nothing wrong w/ being gay, but you can't possibly stay married and live a gay lifestyle and both people will need physical and emotional needs that will go unmet.

Anyone who ';comes out'; has no interest in making their marriage survive. If they did, they would keep it private.
