Has marriage become out dated for our modern society?

Every year the numbers of divorces are rising and its becoming more common for both spouses to cheat. It seems like only the lawyers are benefiting from marriages and divorces.Has marriage become out dated for our modern society?
No.

Do you want to give up those tax benefits? :-P

Actually, the divorce rate isn't increasing, and it isn't becoming more common for spouses to cheat. People have always cheated, and in rather large numbers.

Marriage is a legal and religious commitment, with great benefits there. From a societal standpoint, it is a sign of a certain amount of dedication. Nothing more.

Incidentally, an easy explanation (no idea how accurate) for the increasing divorce rates from the 60s-80s is ';Women's Suffrage.'; If women have no freedom, and are in a bad marriage, they are trapped. If women can get a job, they have the freedom to live independently from a man.

So it's more likely that the divorce rate was kept artifically low earlier in the century, and came to some equilibrium in the 70s, and will stay there forevermore. Or something.Has marriage become out dated for our modern society?
I don't think it is so much that it is out dated as much as people aren't taught the meaning of marriage, respect, and many other things as they are brought up. People tend to be more selfish now. Some where along the way parents have chosen to ignore or not teach their kids the true meaning of being in love. Kind of like in the days they didn't have to have a law for every little thing, there was such a thing as mmores and people respected eachother. They knew what not to do nobody had to hold their hand and tell them what was wrong and right. I personally think people are just selfish.
I believe that it is nearly impossible to tell someone that you will love them for a certain number of years or a life time, perhaps they should have a renewable contract every so many years that way people wouldn't feel trapped .
i don't think that is out dated for our modern society, i think that the problem is that our society is becoming more and more amoral.
The hippies thought that, too, in the 1960's.

Marriage survived.

It still works 50% of the time. We jut need better ways of choosing our mates.
People are getting married at a younger age.

That's the problem, they'll get bored fast and still are immature up until 25-30
marriage is sort of the official way of saying my girlfriend IS MY girlfriend.
