Is same sex marriage just a legal paper of ownership of another person?

if not , then why is it so important for it to be legal? other than ';tax breaks';, what is the ';legal'; reasons?...why involve the state government?...just form a church and get married in itIs same sex marriage just a legal paper of ownership of another person?
Um no, marriage is not ownership of another person. It doesn't NEED to be legal. No marriages need to be legal, but to be fair it should be.Is same sex marriage just a legal paper of ownership of another person?
No, marriage is not ';ownership'; of another person. It's a committment to another person.

When the 1st openly gay congressman, Gerry Studds, passed away, his husband in MA was not eligible to receive a pension due to the Defense of marriage act.

but more importantly........this is not about money..............this is about pride.

Calling marriage something else......calling it a ';civil union'; or ';domestic partnership'; is an insult.

This is about pride %26amp; equality.

Equal rights...........

not the right to ';marry someone fo the opposite sex';............

but the right ';marry the person of one's choice.';

If the government stoped defining marriage, and left it to the churches............that would be fine.

But as long as the government defines marriage.......it should be equality for gays %26amp; straights.

We just made tremendous progress, gaining equality in Sweden, Iowa, %26amp; Vermont all in one week.

And by the end of May, we could see it legalized in New York, California, %26amp; New Hampshire. Those 3 states have a combined population of 60 million.
No. Do you really not understand how the marriage license protects the sanctity of house hold? - especially on the death or incapacity of one of the partners.

When you get married, your partner automatically becomes your next of kin with all of those rights and responsibilities.

When you get married your household becomes one unit in the eyes of the law - One income, one common set of assets, one tax liability.

When you get married your spouse can not be compelled to testify against you in a court of law.

When you get married and one partner dies the assets of the marriage automatically go to the surviving partner. The surviving partner receives the social security death benefit, the surviving partner may continue to receive the income of the deceased partner (e.g. a pension)

At last count there were over 1000 specific rights, responsibilities and benefits that came with a marriage license - the vast majority of them only available with a marrige license.

Gee, I can't imagine why people would want the same rights as everyone else in America. Great question.
