Why do homosexuals care so much about the whole marriage thing?

I'm a straight Christian... while i do agree marriage is between a man and woman, i also think why is this all such a friggin' big deal??? I want a real answer from Homo's no sarcasm or slander... what is the real reason why ya'll throw such a big fuss, personally i don't care either way, i have my opinions, but if i was homo i think there are bigger fish to fry to try and get acceptance... am i wrong?Why do homosexuals care so much about the whole marriage thing?
Is it so difficult to understand equal rights?Why do homosexuals care so much about the whole marriage thing?
Why is it a big deal? Why is it a big deal to straight christians? Gay people only want to be offered the same rights as their straight counterparts. In many cases gays and lesbians whit partners are not given spousal rights in legal matters, hospitals, and are often not even treated as family members by insurance companies, etc. Having a ';marriage'; would eliminate that type of treatment as well as offer gays and lesbians the same taxation rights that straight married couples are allowed.

How about instead of wondering why its important to gays you instead ask, whether gay marriage will really harm you. What would happen to you if Mark and Mitchell get married? Will your life change? No, it won't affect you in any way.

Oh, and by the way, a great deal of people ';accept'; gays and lesbians as they do anyone else, why should we fight for acceptance when the bigger fish is equality.
Funny how you say you don't want any slandering, yet at the same time you call us homos.

Anyway, it's all about equal rights. If you get married, you're able to take out a life insurance policy to make sure that your family is taken care of after you die. A gay couple doesn't have that option. Gay couples don't have half the options that straight couples do.

If our government is going to recognize unions between the opposite sex then they should recognize unions between the same sex. If they can't do that then they need to stay out of it all together. I'm not sure what you mean by ';bigger fish to fry'; but gaining equal rights seems pretty big to me.
I care because I eventually want to settle down with a good guy and spend the rest of my life with him. Marriage is the method in which the law can cope with this eventuality.

Gay people wanting marriage isn't about wanting society to take care of us. Its about us wanting the legal protections to take care of each other. Marriage for us is important for all of the same reasons that its important for everyone else.
i'm a gay woman and to me it's not about the ';marriage'; as much as equal rights. i was watching a documentary (not sure how old it was, think early 2003) this a.m. about a lesbian cop in florida who was shot and killed on the job. b/c her she and her partner were not allowed to marry, she was denied pension benefits b/c there were no equal rights. it's not about saying ';I do'; it's about the government and the rest of the world thinking they have the right to say ';Oh no you don't';. that's ****** up.
We just want to be able to love who we love. Marriage is symbolic. And a lot of us feel that when we get our symbolic freedom, the fight will be won. I don't understand why so many straight christians have a problem with it either. I mean why do they make such a big deal out of it. In the past five years i have been listening to the same arguments about it. And i have never heard a GOOD / REASONABLE reason to be against it. I want a real answer.... but all i get is ';My God says...'; or ';What's next people marrying animals?'; Those and all the other arguments i have heard still have nothing to do with the fact that two people love each other and want to be together forever.
OMG, hahahahha are u from arkansa or something like that??

Jeez, yeah its a big deal, cause is another thing that we CANT do, its unfair cause we are the ones that should decide what we do or don't do, get it?

It doesn't feel good when someone takes the decision for u, no matter what u say.

We wanna be free to express our love, and being able to get married thats a huge thing. Get it?
Why take on the church, if it's only a civil rights issue? I think Gay's would have an easier time making Civil Unions the equal to Marriage. Why don't we have all the states require word ';or Civil Union'; on all documents that include the word marriage. Then everyone should be happy if it's only a equal rights issue.
It is a matter of equal rights. Why is it such a big deal with straight folks? Thats the real question. If you dont agree with it because of your religion...dont do it! But telling another person they cant marry the person they love because of what YOU believe in...thats absurd.
Why do straight people make such a big deal about it? If straight people didn`t make such a big deal then nobody would have a problem and it would already be socially excepted. And screw you on the Homo`s comment
In many states one cannot adopt until one is married, therefore, to get access to children they need to push the marriage agenda, then the adoption agenda.
Marriage isn't the point. The point is the fact that discrimination is still legal...;)

Marriage allows more things than civil unions...
How about the government take the hetero's marriage away, and see if they get mad.
If you wanted to marry a woman but were told you were not allowed to because you are straight , wouldn't you be mad?
Equality under the law as guaranteed by the Constitution. What's so hard to understand about it?
Wouldn't you be upset if you wanted to marry a girl and you couldn't because you were straight?
Why do you as a straight person care so much about the whole marriage thing?

I believe in equal rights.
seems to me that you care more then your willing to admit since your asking this question.

btw i AM accepted.
Equality. That's all. If you don't care either way, why bother asking the question?
we want our rights.

this is a really bone headed question, like asking 'why were slaves so hung up on the whole freedom thing'
The right to same-sex marriage is important because marriage provides %26amp; protects the following rights:

-joint parenting

-joint adoption

-joint foster care, custody, and visitation (including non-biological parents);

-status as next-of-kin for hospital visits and medical decisions where one partner is too ill to be competent

-joint insurance policies for home, auto and health;

-dissolution and divorce protections such as community property and child support

-immigration and residency for partners from other countries

-inheritance automatically in the absence of a will;

-joint leases with automatic renewal rights in the event one partner dies or leaves the house or apartment

-inheritance of jointly-owned real and personal property through the right of survivorship (which avoids the time and expense and taxes in probate)

-benefits such as annuities, pension plans, Social Security, and Medicare

-spousal exemptions to property tax increases upon the death of one partner who is a co-owner of the home;

-veterans' discounts on medical care, education, and home loans --joint filing of tax returns

-joint filing of customs claims when traveling;

-wrongful death benefits for a surviving partner and children

-bereavement or sick leave to care for a partner or child

-decision-making power with respect to whether a deceased partner will be cremated or not and where to bury him or her;

-crime victims' recovery benefits

-loss of consortium tort benefits

-domestic violence protection orders;

-judicial protections and evidentiary immunity

Those who oppose same-sex marriage hold a weak argument considering the benefits listed above.
Yea Its a big deal. ';your sexuality has NOTHING to do with your religion, it only forces higher incentives on individual unhappiness';

people feel that because their ';tolerant'; or at least they think they are, that “gay people” should be more appreciative. like a ';what more do they want from us';(kinda mind set). but tolerance will never be the same as acceptance. tolerance is seeing another individual do something, and while you try to not to openly be offended or gripe, and complain about it and how it makes you feel. your still widely un approving, unaccepting %26amp;very small minded (granted its better then out right predjustice...but not by much). And acceptance is being completely ok with someone not matter what they decide to do, it’s the appreciation of your differences. Its about caring and supporting them in being true to who they are at all times no matter what the rest of the world has to say about it, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Have you EVER actually witnessed a gay person TRY to be str8? saddest thing in the world, because its nothing more then a vicious cycle of self hatred. it’s a complete split in mental and emotional personality…..nothing more than lie, but a widely accepted lie nonetheless. it takes TREMENDOUS “COURAGE” for any person of that status to come out into the world, shed away all their fears and decide that no matter what the rest of the world feels, they refuse to live a lie. Being exactly who they were meant to be is never an easy decision. It wasn’t all that long ago that practically everyone had a African American slave. And even when that FINALLY ended, ppl only remained mildly tolerant(not accepting) and they still were not allowed to vote. Its still exists in china that only a certain # of girls is allowed be born to a family less they be sold into prostitution or killed. Women in certain countries must wear blk veils over their faces( to hide any form of beauty, and individuality) .and years back in india if a woman’s husband died she would HAVE to jump into the crematory fire to die along with him to prove her devotion, and if not from moment on since she was not willing to commit suscide she was treated worse then a common peasant, not worthy of anything more than scraps. Asians work unbelievable hours a week in sweat shops to only come away with a take home of less than 15 dollars. Mexican Americans are turned down food, shelter, decency and jobs to feed their families, because of our selfishness. All around people are being discriminated against, because “freedom, is only a matter of perspective” you would maybe look at some of those examples ive given and be completely taken aback, because it is your personal perspective that these things are wrong..but that’s exactly what were doing to this community, their not free at all, its only a matter of perspective. And the only thing they have that sets them apart from all the other injustices in the world is their willing-ness to FIGHT against their oppression and for their freedom.

And even still, they continuously have to deal with the vast majority of the world being against and hating them. If we all cant come together in their loving acceptance, its sadly not a battle they’ll be able to win. Opinion with authority combined can be a rapid moving form of madness and dictation if left in the wrong hands. We all have our right to our own opinions, but putting restrictions on how another can express them selves or their love is wrong.

so YES it's a big deal. And I fully support them in fighting for their rights as individuals, everyone deserves to be treated fairly. THERE IS NO SUPERIORITY. This isn’t a period they should have to go through. racism is racism, its just now a days people choose not to see it that way. America blindly feels that we've gotten over that hump in history (that were way above that, because we believe in equality..right?), but they haven’t...not with this particular community. They’ve made SOME progress but that’s it, nothing more. It’s unethical to legally force the personal beliefs of any set group on a mass collection of ppl, especially when it comes to self expression. Because who are you to be able to say what’s best for another?

Why does it matter what they do? They should have the same rights granted to them as the rest of us str8 individuals. Their decision is literally not harming anyone. And yet they’re constantly victims of a variety of all kinds of hate crimes. So you’ll have to excuse them if their not so willing to take such a open shot and offence of racism lying down or quietly.
I'm am a straight Christian by the way. Well they just want attetion but...we shouldn't be Bible bashing these people we should be supporting them No not their views, supporting them in showing them the right way. Bible bashing will get do nothing except make them hate God and Jesus even more. Saying God is love and claiming your a Christian and then Bible bashing them is very confusing. Not pointing you out just making a point.
because homos are seeds from hell and they know that if they can get married it's going to p-iss God off and God will wipe the world out aqnd the Devil wins
cause gay guys want to wear a wedding dress.
