If the ';Prop 8'; (ban on gay marriage) in California was put to the entire nation, what would be the result?

If every citizen in the USA had the opportunity to vote on Gay Marriage, as they did in California recently, what would be the result?

Would the result be to ban same sex marriage or not?If the ';Prop 8'; (ban on gay marriage) in California was put to the entire nation, what would be the result?
80% for the ban, 20% opposed. If the ';Prop 8'; (ban on gay marriage) in California was put to the entire nation, what would be the result?
It would have passed.

Consider :

All 50 State legislatures have banned gay marriage.

Even the traditional Liberal states like Mass, Conn, maryland.

No state has ever voted to make gay marriage legal.

184 out of 189 countries in the world ban gay marriage.

So why would anyone be shocked, that prop 8 passed ?

The courts over stepped thioer bounds when they tried to over rule the citizens of Cali.
If it failed in the most liberal state, I'm positive it would fail by a huge margin if voted upon by the entire nation.

I personally don't care what gay people do with their lives, but as far as laws go, the people have spoken which is their right to do, and gay activists should understand that. Now they are resorting to violence and 'hate speech' against churches and synagogues! When will they understand that as long as the Constitution stands, this country is majority rule, and they are certainly not the majority.
It is technically not a ';ban'; on gay marriage. It is a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Many states have already passed this new amendment to their constitutions. Including mine--Tennessee.

It should be a states' rights issue, based on our US Constitution. Marriage is governed by the states.
Same sex marriage will never happen in WI (a blue state) because we had a referendum to make sure it never happens here either. If it was going to pass anywhere it would of been California. The majority of us have traditional values. If gays really want to get married they should move to Canada where it is forced down their throat.
It doesn't matter what the ignorant red-neck majority thinks about it. What matters is that no state law can be in violation of the US Constitution and gay people clearly have a Constitutional Right to be married

If what your saying is true then the minority will no longer have any protection from the tyranny of the majority

If that's the case then why stop with gay marriage?

Let's bring back segregation and separate water fountains for Whites %26amp; Coloreds

Lets put up the No Jews Allowed signs again

WTF Why not? The people have spoken and how dare the courts ignore the will of the ragged rabble ?
Depends on how it is worded. Most propositions are so skewed with legal wording that many people have no idea what they are even voting on. Notice how the ';yes'; always appears above the ';no'; on any ballot. I assume that is exactly why it did not pass in Calf.

I know I could have used a life line on a couple of propositions I had to vote on. They were very confusing and for the voter who does not entirely understand it, voting yes is much easier as it is the top selection.
It would be Gayness is a deviate of normal, against nature, against the way anatomy was designed.

They only want a law so they might be able to justify what they were doing is ok. But since it is abnormal behavior it should never be in the courts or ballots anyhow.

The Government would have to make all abnormal sexual behavior legal.

Just because someone wants to do something, does not make it right and does not mean it should be legal.

My guess is that it would not pass, meaning that Americans would probably vote to ban same sex marriage. But this would largely be to voter turn-out. I think if you could read everyone's mind most people would care all that much about this issue. They would be OK with Gay marriage
what if interracial marriage, divorce, abolish slavery, and such was up to a majority vote years ago?

seriously government grow some balls and legalize it so the rest of us who don't give a crap could get on with our lives
The people have spoken, it is a democratic vote , and needs to be respected! After all why change what have worked for humanity since the beggining of time?
Think about it. California, the most liberal state in the union, passed a ban on gay marriage TWICE.
It passed in California -- the most liberal state -- so, yeah, I think it can be passed in the entire country.
honestly.. california is the most liberal state in the nation.. i was SHOCKED when i heard it passed there.. if it passed there it can pass ANYWHERE
It would easily pass. don't confuse pro-obama with pro-same sex marriage.
I would like to see the gays defeated unless they invite me for a great 6 course meal at their home. They really can cook!
Would ban easily Cali is very liberal state and it still got shot down
the same, thats reality.
Sadly it would be banned.
yes it would ban it.
If it passed in CA , it would pass in the US
it would be banned forever
ban
I really dont care about ';Gays'; or ';Lesbos';. As long as they dont get near my property or f*** me up! XD
it would pass even heavier than than in the Blue Loon State
Probably; there are few things most Americans enjoy more than taking someone's rights away, unless it's stamping out democracy in other countries.
Probably banned because Americans are scared about all of the homosexuals doing domestic things like watching tv, cutting the grass and making drinking hot cocoa by the fire and being happily married.

Sadly, it would probably be banned.

Some people are just plain homophobic.
