What is the ';traditional'; definition of marriage?

Is it the definition of just a few centuries ago when the man was in control of everything? And the wife was pretty much the property of the man?

I'm just curious what a lot of anti-gay rights people think the ';traditional'; view of marriage is. Is it the century old definition, or the modern version of equal power between man and wife. What is the ';traditional'; definition of marriage?
Well, most early cultures traditionally married in teen or pre-teen years, and yes, the wife was basically the man's possession.

Polygamy was also quite traditional. What is the ';traditional'; definition of marriage?
Yes, the traditional definition of marriage is that of a contract in which the male participant acquires the female participant as chattel.

Damn right, I'm trying to destroy the traditional definition of marriage.
The traditional, ancient definition of Marriage was/is ';Companionship';.

A Husband or Wife was/is a ';Companion';; pure and simple.

Before ';tribal-bargaining';; ancient or modern.
It means no matter who or what you marry eventually you are gonna give away half your crap
In Senegal, it is one man and many wives.

Are we talking in terms of ethnocentric southern states...what?

I don't think they have a clue is my point.
