I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about Indian weddings, except they are beautiful and amazing to attend (great food too!).
Your best bet, if your family follows tradition, is to talk to someone who is knowledgeable in your culture and faith, like a Hindu priest.
I personally feel, that if you and this person (your cousin?) get along well and think you would like to marry each other, then that should be enough for a great marriage.
Note: I assume you are talking about a 2nd cousin. Marriage between 1st cousins is generally illegal in most places, but that depends on where you live and your culture, I suppose.
