People are equal, and deserve equal opportunity to marry. Why is that so hard for people to understand? Gay marriage harms no heterosexual. What good comes from denying gay couples access to the same benefits of marriage? Reassurance that gayness isn't being condoned? Instead we would condone intolerance, and that is somehow preferable.
As far as civil unions, in our country's history ';separate but equal'; never worked. It's the same ';save our values'; ';that's not what the Bible says'; ';what about the children'; bullshite that conservative jerks pulled with inter-racial marriage (and apparently still do, if you check recent headlines in Louisiana). All of the effort of people who want to deny others the happiness and basic legal benefits of marriage stems from fear and hate of people who are different from themselves. Has history taught us anything about such motives?Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?
I oppose - because the idea of reducing romance to a contract is something which belongs in the patriarchal dark age. I always hoped that straight people would become more like gay people and move away from peculiar, antediluvian notions such as ';marriage';.
But, hey, I'm not American - so feel free to discount my opinion!
Any consenting adults should be able to marry any other consenting adults...no matter what sex, or how many. That's how I feel about it...I've not seen a single argument against gay marriage or polygamy that was a logical, valid reason to disallow it.
I support civil unions for same sex people. Their unions probably have a much of a failure rate as regular marriages. Plus they can get benefits for each other if they have a legel union such as insurance, benefits, etc.
Any person has the right to decide who he wants to marry as long as there is a mutual agreement, regardless of sex, age or gender.
Marriage is between two consenting adults that love each other and that want to spend their life together.
I can't believe that people still are so against same sex marriage. It is so ridiculous. It is there own business, if they love each other why not?
