What are the secrets behind your successful marriage?

I'm getting married this Friday and just wanted to hear from the Pros what the keys are to keeping a marriage fresh, loving and happy.

Thanks! What are the secrets behind your successful marriage?
It takes two, period. You could be the best wife in the world and he could still be a bum. Get that outta the way.

The first thing that I would tell a new bride is about men's need for unconditional respect. Please, hear me out, just like you need unconditional love from him, he needs unconditional respect from you. I don't mean kiss his butt, I mean when you speak to him, look at him, argue with him, etc. use a tone and body language that communicates respect to him. He doesn't just want it, he needs it.

I'm sure you've heard that the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach, right? If you ask a man how he would view his wife taking the time and energy to make him a good meal when he gets home from work, he would say that she is showing him respect. It isn't the food that makes him love, it's the motivation behind it.

Just like it's his job to love you whether you're lovable or not, it's your job to show him respect whether he's respectable or not. The sooner that you accept it the better off you'll be.

This is where you should drag him over to the screen.

Your near-bride wants to have the best marriage that she can, which means she wants to love you and for both of you to be happy together for a long, long time.

I've given her a short run-down and if you're reading this then you should be ecstatic that she's willing to show you the respect that you so badly need from her.

Now here's your part: Show her that you love her no matter how unlovable she is being. That is the absolutely fastest way to get her to respect you. When you are wrong, she already knows, your friends know, her friends know, the dog knows. Just admit and apologize, she'll respect you for it, you haven't 'lost' everybody's wrong sometimes.

The fact that she is seeking out advice on how to keep your marriage fresh, loving and happy means that she obviously cares enough about you to make an effort to create a wonderful marriage before it has begun, you found a winner.

To both of you: your job isn't to remind the other what they are suppose to be doing, worry about what YOU are doing.

90% of problems can be fixed by changing how YOU do things, changing your behavior can and, most likely, will change their behavior.

I wish the best to you, and I hope you find the dream marriage that you are looking for! What are the secrets behind your successful marriage?
Thank you, I really hope it helps you.

First of all congratulations and best of luck.

Marriage at the beginning is more responsibility than later, as marriage at early stage present test for success ';Continue on this relation?'; i have married three times n my life. Best advice i can say is ';Honesty is big ladder in marriage life, forgiven is another, sharing and finally building commonality among you two. He likes that ';wiz time you will like and vs';

patience is last one. Cause marriage requires lots of patience.

Once again, good luck and i really wish you happy life
Alot of butt kissing, and letting him think he is always right!
honesty, respect, compromise.

I've been married 28 years and I can say that even good marriages go through difficult times. Don't think you have to throw in the towel at the first sign of conflict. Talk things through rationally. Don't fight over little things, they're not worth it.

If you're doing something that you wouldn't do if your spouse were there, then it's something you shouldn't be doing.
love, true dedication and the willingness to accept the things you cannot change!
A succesful marriage doesn't need a perfect man or perfect woman but it needs a husband and a wife striving together to get a perfect marriage. Trust each other. Be open-minded, both of you. Don't do things that might make him/her insecure. See to it that both of you always make your partner feel loved. For the wife, be always available for him. Sometimes, put some excitements to your romance. Be creative and exciting. Make him feel like a king and surely he will make you feel like a queen. okey?

Best wishes and God bless your union...
My marriage was successful because I knew WHEN to get out of it. I've been blissful every since.
Dont get fat.
Married 26 years. When you KNOW you love your spouse, the little things they do that drive you crazy, really aren't that important to obsess about. It's the big things that you are able to work through that matters. Your going to go through some rough waters, but realize that you are in this ';together'; not separate. You BOTH handle the things that come up on a daily basis and rationally work through them. Don't put everything on the other's shoulders. If something is bugging you, talk, talk, talk. Woman usually just want an open-ear that is listening to what they are actually saying. Men usually talk when they want something straightened out. Be NICE when discussing things, show respect for the other. I can't say enough about just being kind.
Well...i am 6 months in...and can tell you that you HAVE to communicate, be respectful and find quality time...one on one time at least once a week together...even if you just veg out and stay home! Realize the fighting doesn't have to be do or die....allow cool down time....and still be an individual!
The key to marriage is to get a comfortable couch. Because

you are going to be sleeping there alot. Marriage is a contract between a man and a women where the man agrees to give up half of every thing he is worth in return for less sex.

But THERE ARE 3 RINGS TO MARRIAGE the engagment ring the wedding ring and then after the marriage the

suffeRING. THE ONLY HOPE YOU HAVE IS TO set the rules

early what ever she gets used to she will except. So watch football for 15 hrs on sunday and tell her thats never gonna change establish that from the start. or she will never let you do it. Also as soon as you get married visit all the divorce lawyers that are good for a consultation then she can never use them down the road. Also hide cash in an account before you get married. Never tell her about that account. She will

be spending all your money so you will need this account if you ever want to have some fun. As far as you being happy

you can't be married and happy at least not for long because once the honeymoon period is over she will start to turn into your mom then you are done. So happyness as you know it is over. The only way to keep a marriage fresh is to get a prenup. Why a prenup because once a women feels safe and knows you will not leave her she will treat you like dogshit.

If there is a prenup she will behave because she knows if

she acts up your leaving and she is getting nothing. When

you date things are cool why she will not act up because she knows you will leave. She is scared and thats the best thing for a marriage. Good luck but my best advice is run, run fast, very fast and never look back. MARRIAGE WILL RUIN YOUR

LIFE. THEY ARE MAN MADE PRISIONS !!!!! RUN !!!!

OH your a girl sorry Tell your sucker I mean future husband

I feel bad for him and please let him read my advice. Thank you.
all i have to say is one thing compromise
Every morning when you wake up, think ';how can I make my partner feel loved today?'; If you're both making that your first thought, your actions will speak volumes.

Always put each other first - even when kids come along. The mistake some parents make is doing everything for their children but forget to nourish themselves or their r'ships.

R'ships are like cars in 1 way - they take maintenence. You can't expect one to just run along smoothly forever. It takes work and actively doing things to keep the love going.

Successful marriages aren't just about love. There is a foundation based on common interests, values, and respect. It takes WORK and understanding that your commitment doesn't end at the alter but is renewed every single day.

Laugh ALOT - it will get you through hard times. :)

Never let the romance die. Go for a date night once a week. Do something unexpected. Keep him on his toes! :)
We have been married 32 years, had our ups and downs but we are more deeply in love than ever. How? Treat your partner with deep respect, always give 110% to the relationship, and have lots of hot sex!
Laugh a lot! Especially at the stupid stuff. Otherwise you will drive each other crazy.

Oh and marry your best friend- it helps.
Go in to this marriage with perfect honesty, communication, Ability to make yourself happy. Dont think in anyway shape or form that it is his job to keep you happy. He is becoming a part of your daily life, he will not be perfect in all ways, just as you wont be. Love each other on a daily basis.Keep his ego pumped that he is the only man that walks. Good luck to you honey. Have a beautiful marriage. Talk Talk Talk.

What is a interesting topic about gay marriage?

I'm doing a presentation for my American Government class on Gay marriage. There are other people in my group and we're all taking about something different about gay marriage.

These are the topics about gay marriage that are already taken by my group members:

Adoption

Civil rights

Religion

State laws

Prop 8

Choice

History

So they took all the good topics.lol. Whats something about gay marriage besides these that i maybe can talk about. ThanksWhat is a interesting topic about gay marriage?
How religious people pick and choose what is considered a ';sin.'; Yes, the Bible says ';man shall not lay with man,'; but it also says we shouldn't eat pork, eat dairy with meat, etc...What is a interesting topic about gay marriage?
One interesting topic, and one most anti-Christian people never consider is the issue of Affirmative Action forcing churches to conduct gay marriages against their will. The equivalent is already happening in Canada.

Nini, you're a moron. Here's ';how they pick and choose'; what is and isn't a sin: the new testament. The new testament doesn't forbid pork. Do you people even form your OWN opinions anymore, or do you just parrot everything your community college professors say?
i not against or for it idont really care too much the only thing is when the adopot or whatever they do i thinks is starnge if it the same sex as them knowing the r gay or even the oppiste bc who knows what will happen if u know wht im getting at, dont get me wrong im not saing these things happen or whatever but i just think its strange
Education about marriage.

Look to all the arguments for and against prop 8 to find out something your group would be interested in.
separate but equal laws that were found unconstitutional

Why would someone want to BAN gay marriage?

I'm not gay--but if we're all equal, I don't understand this concept. If everyone is created equal, then why aren't equal rights distributed? Please help me understand the logic in people who do not support gays. Why would someone want to BAN gay marriage?
Because those people are so close minded,it's unbelievable. I am not gay either; just stating the facts. Why would someone want to BAN gay marriage?
Heh the leading point by Prop 8 supporters was to protect the children. Funny hypocrisy is that those who are gay or have gay parents will be discriminated against even more! Speaking as a gay 13 year old I can see how religious bigots only want to protect the straight kids.

Do you believe that mentally disabled people are equal to everyone else? Do you think that they should enjoy the same rights? Some people don't think so. That is why some people do not think they should be married or have children. The same logic can apply to gays. Some people think gays are genetically defected.

There are also people believe that gay couples should enjoy the same rights as a married couple under Civil Union. However, they don't think the union between man/man or woman/woman is exactly the same as the union between man/woman; therefore, the union should not be called a marriage.

Another reason that some people are against legalizing gay marriage is the fear that gay activists will push to add gay marriage or gay family topics into school textbooks. They don't want their young children to be exposed to gay related topics.

As you can see, it is not as simple as ';we're all equal, therefore...';
I'm not sure why Gay people are not giving the same rights as murders or rapist. If you murder someone and go to prison do they take away your right to marry? No. So how dare they even think about prohibiting people who have done nothing wrong rights to marry. It is ridiculous. More states should go along with California so we can stop this prejudice.

[RYE - STAR] is completely correct. If your going to go on about how gay marriage is wrong I suggest you have a nice long conversation with yourself about all the things you do in the Bible that are wrong. You cannot pick one thing and ignore the others. People have no excuse for the rest of the sins in the Bible, they do it on a daily basis and don't think twice to acknowledge it. The point is the Bible is a very very very old book and times are different. If you believe everything in the Bible then act accordingly, don't pick gay marriage and say how wrong it is and continue to do everything else wrong.
Well, I have absolutely nothing against gay marriage, it's life, and if you love someone of the same sex, then just leave them alone.

People who would try to badn gay marriage, if they think it is porbably discriminable because we are supposed to be married like boy and girl. Also, i dont why, but some people are AFRAID or gay marriage. It's just the way they are, like gayphobic.

And some people just want to ban it because they dont like the way it sounds or the way the couple looks like. Or how their minds think the ';wrong way'; on how they do it.

Whcih is very dumb of them because it's none of their business, and they should live their life their way, and leave them to their lives.

But on the bright side, gay people are just great, like gay men, they can be closer to you then a girl's own best friend, because they understand more about them, because thats their nature.

People shouldnt have problems with gay marriage. (:

thats my opinion
I tell you what. When you find a LOGICAL answer to that question, then please let me know.

COUNTER TO ARGUMENT: Marriage is between a man and a woman? Who says? The constitution does not say that. Does God say it? Marriage is NOT a religious institution. Atheists get married and here in the US we can practice whatever religion we want and there are religions that accept homosexuality. Using religion as an argument is invalid.

COUNTER TO ARGUMENT: Pedophilia is irrelevent to homosexuality. Pedophiles have been successfully treated and pedophilia is a mental disorder: http://www.minddisorders.com/Ob-Ps/Pedop鈥?/a>

Whereas homosexuality is not a mental disorder and needs no cure (I have here the American Psychological Association cited, but there are about 15 other ones): http://www.apahelpcenter.org/articles/ar鈥?/a>

Homosexuals have attempted ';treatment';, but reparative therapy represses homosexuality (it does not successfully reverse it): http://www.truthwinsout.org/what-the-exp鈥?/a>

Reparative therapy does not reverse homosexuality. Bisexuals and heterosexuals who think they are gay will benefit from reparative therapy (though not all bisexuals) because the homosexual desires will be repressed and they may concentrate on their heterosexuality or heterosexual side, but homosexuals will not benefit from it, they will become sorta like asexual; they won't ';act out'; on their gay feelings but the feelings will always be there and won't go away and feelings for the opposite sex will not come into place. Those homosexuals may form heterosexual relationships, but they all too often leave them after a few years.

COUNTER TO ARGUMENT: Why do people insist on using Leviticus to condemn homosexuality?

Leviticus 26:14-16 ';If you do not obey me and do not carry out ALL of these commandments (referring to ALL the Levitical Laws), if instead, you reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances so as not to carry out all my commandments, I, in turn, will do this to you.

(In other words, break ONE levitical law, and you have broken them all)

Leviticus 19:27 ';you shall not round off the side-growth of your heads, nor harm the edges of your beard.';

(In other words, getting haircuts are sinful)

Leviticus 19:19 ';Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.';

(In other words, wearing clothing made of 2 different material is sinful)

Leviticus 18:22 ';You shall not lie with a man as with a woman, it is a detestable act.

(This is where homosexuality is supposedly said to be sinful)

(Hey I didn't write it; the man upstairs did)

The bible has been mistranslated or taken out of context when it comes to homosexuality: http://www.jlarue.com/wtbs.html

COUNTER TO ARGUMENT: Marriage is for creating families? Then I think that any straight couple who can't have children, or who doesn't want children, should not be allowed to get married.

COUNTER TO ARGUMENT: Gay marriage would not be taught in public schools to quote on quote ';impressionable'; children. If it will be taught AT ALL, then it would be in history classrooms. The case where a first grade class went to their teacher's wedding has been taken out of context. It was a parent who made the suggestion for the field trip and the teacher did not make any mention to the class about getting married to another woman. She simply said she was ';getting married';. The parents knew the truth, yet let their kids go. It was a parents suggestion, all the parents knew it was a lesbian wedding, and yet if they wanted to keep their kids from it, they could simply not let them go.

Many of them consider it ridiculous how so many homophobes have twisted it to pretty much say, ';she forced the kids to go to a lesbian wedding';.

The arguments are getting a little psychotic now.
what is with all of the ignorant gay rights activists who post their ideas everywhere??

you say that us religious people are ignorant?

i have not read one plausible reason as to why homosexuals should be allowed to marry.

reasons why homosexuality is wrong///why marriage is for man/woman? :

1 ) if everyone was gay, then humanity would cease to exist.

[excluding modern science, which CAN create test babies.

cuz you know what - science can do A LOT of things...many of

which are both morally/biologically horrible]

Pre-21st century, if you had homosexual parents, chances are

you weren't going to be born. puzzle pieces have to fit.]

2 ) RYE-STAR knows NOTHING. marriage IS a religious institution.

(although the word is not used in the Bible - marriage is latin, Bible is Hebrew and such)

maybe there's a reason as to why priests/pastors hold the

ceremony? and it is ALSO for a man and a woman.

the Bible makes countless references to that of a man being

with a woman. (never man/man or woman/womam) ex :

'; ' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' ... 'therefore what God has created, let man not separate .' ';

3 ) Gay marriage, if passed, WILL be taught to children.

The gov. is very effective in creating an equal learning environment. religion for example - if a teacher needs to present something about a certain religion, he/she MUST also present various other religions. eg, if a correct way marriage is shown, then a homosexual marriage will be shown.

and Sex Education class will be COMPLETELY different...talk about not forcing homosexual concepts on students. They already are being taught about them and its not even legal yet!

4) Leviticus 18:22 ';You shall not lie with a man as with a woman, it is a detestable act.

There is nothing ';supposedly'; said about this verse. its in black and white rye-star. don't play dumb

of course there are some dated Leviticus laws. The Bible also states that holy men should the highest robes and such (like the pope in a way) obviously very few dress like- that's because times have changed, and new ways of creating clothing have come up. the problem with homosexuality still exists though, because nothing can prove it to be ok, or out-dated.

mixing seed and such is needed in today's world, and the future.

we need as much food as we can get- and i don't think God would disagree on that. but nothing beneficial can come from allowing homosexuals to announce themselves into society and expect to have opportunities received from religion that go directly against what said religion states.

4 ) best argument : Do you know how many law suits will come about because pastors won't wed to homosexuals?

think about it - i don't want to have to write everything

Because guess what...no moral pastor will. but then he would be breaking the law?!?! i see disastor
Because supposedly the bible says it is wrong and when you have all these bible pushers in office, and them thinking this is the way we are suppose to live, by this book, then you have people criticizing others for the way they live there life. This will never end until people learn that you dont have to have be a religious person to have good morals. An I'm not gay either but I am a supporter of everyone has there own life to live and people do not need someone there to think your doing wrong by living your life.
Lev. 18:22, ';You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.';

Lev. 20:13, ';If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them.';

1 Cor. 6:9-10, ';Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals1, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.';

I didn't write this stuff, the man upstairs did though. These are morals laws.
Rich perverted ******* want to ban anything that they do. Lot's of rich politicians snort coke, snuggle up with a prossy, or even snuggle up with the same sex. They want to control you but do whatever they like. Politicians are the filthiest garbage roaming around, and their ';God'; will have their *** for it.
my personal view is that marriage is religious, and the decision on who gets married or not should be up to the head of each religion, and not the government
Possibly because if us gays were allowed to marry, then straight homophobic people -- by which I'm not trying to imply that all or most straight people are homophobic -- could no longer taunt us about it. Just a thought.
Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman to have a family. Gay men can marry gay women any time they want, what could be more fair?
People who don't support Gays are simply stupid. Constitution Clearly Says, ';All Men are Created Equal';, therefore this should also apply to Gays. People just use the dumb exuse, ';ITS AGAINST THE CHURCH!';
they are confused, afraid, close-minded
ignorance
Sarah Palin is one of em.
because ignorant people believe in a fake book written a long time ago.
well if you live in the bible belt it has to do with religion. or so they say?
Equality has nothing to do with it. I don't want impressionable children taught that same sex marriage is normal and equal to heterosexual marriage. It isn't. The entire purpose of marriage is to create a family through the normal and healthy activity of sexual relations between one man and one woman. This is good old fashioned morality. It is old fashioned because it has worked for thousands and the world is where it is today because of that belief. If the parents of gays were gay they would never have born in the first place.
YES ON 8!!!!!!!

Could I marry three women in one marriage and say it was not polygamy but monogamy?

It makes sense to me. If Christians can squeeze three ';Persons'; into ';one'; God and call that monotheism, why can't I squeeze three women into one wedding ceremony and call it monogamy?

Mono means three, right?Could I marry three women in one marriage and say it was not polygamy but monogamy?
LOL, I never heard that one before. I like it.Could I marry three women in one marriage and say it was not polygamy but monogamy?
You can call polygamy what ever you want to but that doesn't necessarily make it right. As for the Holy Trinity, you don't have to believe in it and if you don't believe in it, why should you care that others do? Will their belief interrupt your life somehow? Will it cost you anything? OR is it that there's something about it that makes you just a little uncomfortable, especially the idea of having to stand one day before a Holy God and give an account for your life? It's your life. You can do whatever you wish with it.
So...what you're telling us is that you clearly and fully do NOT understand the nature of the Trinity and that you don't understand the function of the prefix ';mono,'; and you want to use your lack of knowledge to excuse your sin....thanks for clearing all that up for us, about how you don't know what you're talking about.
While I'm all for letting people marry whoever they want to marry, as long as it's consenting adults, I think you are missing a major issue here.

If you marry 3 women, and they divorce you, and each gets half your assets...well, you don't have 150% assets, obviously, so you would be in debt the rest of your life to them!

Plus, there would be 3x the nagging!

For your own sanity, you should only marry one. *sagenod*
Comparing polygamy to the holy trinity. Is there a lightening storm near your house? Mono comes from the Greek word monos ';渭慰谓蠈蟼';, which means one or alone. Give it a try if you find someone to legally perform the service.
Then, we women should have the same right as well. I wouldn't mind having three husbands--one for the morning, one for the afternoon, and one for the evening.
Makes sense to me, by that logic anyway.

Foursomes every night and day. :D
If all three women share one body, certainly.
You could be with them, without marriage.
Sure, if only one wife had a physical body.
That works for me.
No.

You have to do better then that

Go to the Gay/Lesbian section and ask this. I'm sure they'll have better ideas than us.What is a interesting topic about gay marriage?
FYI there is a gay and lesbian section, i think you can get better answers there. anyway, i think another topic can be Love. Isnt that what marriage is actually about.
Their culture, tight knit community, or the discrimination they have face (similar to blacks of the 1960's) would all make interesting topics.
Economic Repercussions: How gay marriage will effect the economy? How gay marriage will effect insurance claims?
Prop 8 since its a more current news topic.

  • How long will you stay in a marriage that you are unhappy in? Why or why not? is or was it worth it?

The Other Woman. How long will you stay in a marriage that you are unhappy in? Why or why not? is or was it worth it?
Well, I wasn't happy in my marriage... but you know what? I had to change in order to get happy. I had to do changes in me and what I did in order to get a response from my husband.

I wouldn't say that I have a great marriage... but we're working on it most of the time and I would say its a good marriage.

As far as cheating goes... The grass may be greener on the other side, but you still have to water it!How long will you stay in a marriage that you are unhappy in? Why or why not? is or was it worth it?
First, you shouldn't even be involved with someone who is married. Not only is it morally wrong, but you are setting up yourself for possible failure and not to mention greif. If he ever leaves his woman for you (which statistics prove it to be slim) that will only be half the battle won by you. You will constanly be worried in the back of your mind if he is doing the same thing to you behin your back. It is a tremendous amount of mental anguish, that you my dear may not want to endure. Not to mention Karma....what goes around comes around and for some reason it comes around twice as hard.
Since you are the other woman, I will say this! If he was truly unhappy, he would have ended his marriage already. You're just the side kick! Get over yourself!!

    I'd stay away from religion.

History may be an interesting one. You could speak about how each generation imposes it's own moral codes. Puritans had laws (governmental laws) we'd find laughable today. Utah wasn't allowed to join the union until is specifically outlawed polygamy. States did not allow bi-racial marriages. Prohibition of alcohol. ... Eventually, we see a pattern in history. Namely, that laws and policy rarely work out unless there are cultural norms to support them. True, lasting, morality of a society is decided culturally, not by policy of the government.

Why don't you look at the purpose and definition of ';marriage';. Can two same gendered persons enter into the social/legal contract known as ';marriage';, or should that contract be called something else?

Although your topic may end up being more controversial than the others, I think it will be more interesting. Good luck.

in britain until the turn of this century, there was a law called section 28.

it forbid the ';positive promotion'; in schools of same sex couples as acceptable parents/families thereof. it meant that if somebody at school whose parents were a homosexual couple, that child could not be allowed to think its parents and family set up were acceptable. the law was introduced around 1988, and was overturned, as i say, about 2000.

to my mind, it was an inhumane law and should never have been made statute.
You can talk about how gays live their lives like anyone else.

    Their alarm clocks go off.

They rush about getting ready for work.

    Their sinks clog up.

Their cars need brakes a week after the warranty is up.

When you think about your parents being married, I would bet your first thought isn't about the sex. Think beyond the sex when you do your presentation.
This may be covered under ';civil rights'; but I think someone should look at the laws of other countries (such as the UK) where gay people have civil unions and domestic partner benefits; and compare the pros and cons of civil unions vs. gay marriage.
Religion, interesting? It's not a good topic because not everyone believes in it.
    love

Why did the argument against same sex marriage fail?

And why did it win for same sex marriage as legal? Thanks. Why did the argument against same sex marriage fail?
The same reason the the arguments for segregation failed. Why did the argument against same sex marriage fail?
They didn't fail last fall. Voters believed the lies told by the conservatives.

below is something I wrote last Nov...

Arizona, Florida, Arkansas and California each had some type of anti gay related issues on their ballots yesterday. All passed and took away or denied equal rights to gay and lesbian people. (California has some votes left to count. The outcome of Prop 8 could change. Fingers crossed.) The state constitution of Kentucky was amended in 2004 prohibiting marriage by same-sex couples because the majority of voters agreed with adding the amendment.

I don't think civil rights for a minority group should be voted on, rather decided on by legislation or judicial rulings.

I live in the south... and if civil rights for minority racial groups had been voted on years ago, we could still have separate water fountains today! Sounds outrageous, but that is how the majority felt then. That is why black people needed laws to protect their rights. Not special rights, just equal rights, that mandated fair treatment even if a majority of the citizens did not agree Those battles were won in court, not on election day. .

The reasons that equal rights laws are needed is because a minority group is being treated unfairly by the majority. Putting issues like gay rights up in a vote just allows that majority to keep suppressing the minority.

Sounds like common sense to me.
Who said the arguments failed. In all the states that put it to a vote, voted no. The states that allow same sex marriage didn't let the people decide, like it says in the Constitution, they let the courts decide. That's right. Less than 20 people decided what's best for a few million people.
in the united states, religion and government are supposed to be separate. all arguments against same sex marriage are religious, hence meaningless. they are discriminating against innocent people (lgbt) without any logical reason, only religious reasons.

Why are there so many guys against marriage?

I'm not one of those people who wants to get a guy through games or to trap him. I want someone who genuinely chooses me and I choose him also. So many guys are so paranoid about getting married, it makes me think that my chances of getting married aren't so good. Why are there so many guys against marriage?
Yeah, it's true that most guys don't like the idea of being tied down but those guys who are ';scared'; are the immature people. It looks like you have run into those type of guys most of your life. Look, I know there is a lot of guys who do want to get married. Take me for an example. I wanna get married and I am barely 21. I wanna have a family too. I guess it depends on the guy too. I do hope you find someone and I do hope you get your wedding you deserve. Also, I do hope this answer helped. Why are there so many guys against marriage?
You know that's weird because I hear all of that about men being afraid to commit, but that hasn't been my experience at all. I've dated some jerks too but for the most part the significant long term boyfriends I had wanted to get married %26amp; it was me that didn't want to. It could have been all talk though for all I know. I think a lot of people want things that they can't have %26amp; when you're with a girl like me who has trouble even keeping a toothbrush at their house, they want the commitment because they can't have it. If you're the type who talks about marriage or mentions the future a little too much, they want to run for the hills. In any case, if the relationship is real %26amp; there is real love there, it works out.

My husband %26amp; I discussed marriage on probably our 2nd or 3rd date. We both said we didn't really NEED it, but wouldn't mind it, like it wasn't the top priority for either of us so things just naturally progressed without pressure. We realized very soon that we did want to spend the rest our lives together %26amp; this was it. He had no hesitation at any point from the proposal to the wedding planning to the actual day. He was excited.
In my experience, I've met very few people, men or women, who are against marriage. That being said, most of my female friends were ';ready'; to get married at a much younger age than most of my male friends. Whereas the girls were ready to get the relationship part of their lives settles, the guys were eager to get well-established in their careers. I'm not trying to stereotype, I'm just speaking from my own experience.

90% of Americans will get married. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Depends on the type of guy.

My bf is family orientated, settled down and focused in life. He doesn't follow the crowd. He doesn't choose his friends over family. He believes in family virtues beyond everything else.

Finding a decent guy is so rare. So many men party up until their late twenties to early thirties. They are so busy getting drunk, hooking up with randoms etc., that settling down is a worry to them.

With a bf who you would want as a potential husband. If he looks at marriage with fright -- you need to let go of him. Cause all he'll do is waste your time.

Find a decent guy. There are only some -- but its worth the effort of looking and waiting for one.
I think its the old adage, why buy the cow when you get the milk for free, sad but true, don't give up though there are plenty of decent guys out there and would welcome a solid relationship, so I wish you luck! :)
Perhaps too many females are overly eager to get married, which puts undue pressure on the men in their lives. All the men I've known seemed to have nothing against marriage, as long as they weren't rushed into it.
Men don't want to be tied down to one woman unless she's the one. Men aren't born for commitment. Women have to bring it out in them, and when they find a woman who does, they marry her.
There are a lot of guys who actually DO want to get married, or are at least very open to it. Of course, you won't typically find these guys at a bar, at a frat party, in class, etc.

Now to answer your question: You see, there are 2 major factors in men choosing to marry. It's often not the ';right woman'; as much as the ';right time';. We have all seen a man dump a smart, funny, beautiful woman only to marry someone similar 2 years later. Sure, the last woman could have had more things in common, but more than likely it was just time for him to consider marriage. You need to look for a man who a) is willing to get married period and b) who is READY to get married.

Nowadays, unless a man is very religious, shy, or a family man ';type';, he typically is always on overdrive exposed to a multitude of sex everywhere he turns. He just can't imagine settling down until his looks start to go and his friends no longer call him for boys nights as their wives won't allow it. In other words, he'll marry when his friends are settling down and he is lonely. With internet dating, overtly sexual culture (ex.women proudly having one night stands), and sex with everyone everywhere and anytime, this generation is less likely to marry than ever before. Divorced parents don't help the situation either. Neither does living together (now common), and having kids out of wedlock (also common).

Most men see no incentive to marry, and if they can get the milk for free (all the benefits of a wife with no cost or risk to them), then why not, right? Marriage has been cheapened. There is a slow but steady backlash to ';modesty';, but generally speaking...

Another main factor is that men are well...being boys longer. Nowadays you need a degree to get a job. That degree is expensive. Mom and dad often offer to help. This translates into living at home until age 25 eating mom's pot roast every night while taking your sweet time finishing your degree. Guys today are fine and happy living at home with mom washing their socks until they're 30. They can still go out to the bar at get laid, and then come home the next morning to breakfast on the table. They live in the basement like kids until they're 30. Then they have to play ';catch up'; (living on their own, buying their first place, their first job, etc.) at 30, and marriage is not yet in the picture at all. Men will generally not settle down until they are secure in their finances, own their own home, have a good job, etc.

The fact is, I could go on and on. There are many social and biological factors that come into play. The fact is, if *every* guy you meet is against marriage, you are either meeting the wrong guys, or guys at the wrong time in their lives.

If you are ready to be married, look for a guy who is too. Try dating sites, dating groups (some have a marriage focus), religious singles groups, etc.

My husband and I discussed what we wanted early on. He was a family guy and ready to be married. I was too, but I was definitely less ready than him. ;) Lol! There are people out there who are ready to get married, you just have to find them. I met my husband on a blind date. Never say never!

It's a shame that women's magazine promote brazen sexual adventures and tell women not to ';scare off'; men with marriage. Are we not past conforming ourselves for men's needs anymore? Are we really supposed to cater to these immature ';men'; so they can have their fun worry free? These men need to grow up and become responsible adults. It's part of what's wrong with society. And if you talk the talk, walk the walk. If we want men to respect us enough to marry us, you have to be responsble yourself. Don't live with a guy, don't get pregnant before marriage, etc. That is a nasty slippery slope in 99% of cases....

Good luck, and I hope you find your man soon!

Is there ever a time in your marriage?

Do you think that there is ever a time where it is ok to have an affair. Maybe not ok, but justifiable. What do you think? Is there ever a time in your marriage?
it is never justified! Is there ever a time in your marriage?
I know what your talking about and the answer is still no.
NO... nothing can justify an affair. If you're that unhappy then you need to leave... and if he cheated on you and you're wanting to get back at him for it... well honey 2 wrongs don't make a right.
There is never a time where it is ok or justifiable. However, it can be beneficial, but only in rare cases. Regardless of what you get out of it, it is still technically wrong and will not cease to be wrong no matter how you try to rationalize it.
No there is never a time for that. When you get to thinking like that it is either time to talk and fix the problem or time to move on. It is never fair to treat your partner like that.
I THINK I understand what you are getting at, but the answer is still no.
No. If it comes to that, end the marriage first.
No I don't think so at all. If you are thinking that then some things need to change in the relationship. You are supposed to be committed to that one person even if he does cheat on you does not make it right to cheat on him back. Two cheaters still equals heartbreak and drama! If you want to be with someone else other than your spouse then end the relationship so you both can move on with yalls lives!
    Nope never ever ever
By definition, an ';affair'; is something you do behind your partner's back; I don't think it's ever justifiable. It's a whole different ball game when you and your partner agree to have an open relationship, or to separate and see other people - but then, it's not an ';affair'; if it's agreed upon and is out in the open.

It's kind of like asking - is it ever ok to rob someone, is it ever justifiable. The answer is no. There are desperate people in desperate situations who resort to robbery, but while it can be understandable, it doesn't make it justifiable.
    NO!

If you want to be with someone else then get a divorce first-don't do it behind someones back.

    That is just wrong.

There is only one circumstance that I would find acceptable.and that would be if your husband were totally incapacitated-i.e. in a coma or severe dementia in a home-when there is no hope of recovery.

A lady I know in her 50's has spent the last 10 years alone-her husband in a home with Alzheimer's Disease.

She deserves some companionship and happiness-so yes technically it would be an affair!
never! just use your imagination - then no-one gets hurt.

some woman had an affair with a married man, he died, she couldn't go to his funeral or show her true grief because their relationship had been secretive. She had no-one to talk to about it and it screwed her up.
If you do, just be very discreet.
I dont think it is ever ok or justifiable.
No - Not Ever! My decision to NEVER have an affair is all about me and the person I want to me. It has nothing to do with my spouse. If one is not happy in a relationship, fix it, leave it or live with it. But why be a liar and a cheat? That's not the type of person I want to be.

Is it true that I can get a violation because I approve of gay marriage?

It was aksed in marriage and divorce and we were polite and someone said we would be reported for our opinion.. It is insulting and a violation of freedom of speech. Nothing sexual was ever mentioned. I am a straight married lady and have many gay friends. It never says anything that the word gay is a bad word as long as it is not insulting. Is it true that I can get a violation because I approve of gay marriage?
I have never heard of anyone being reported %26amp; banned for this, and I'd find it rather appalling. I saw that thread and replied in it myself. If you or I were reported for it I'd have some serious doubts about the Quality Control people running things at YA HQ.Is it true that I can get a violation because I approve of gay marriage?
Sometimes if enough people flag you they give the violation just because its an automated system
l am not sure about that but you do have to walk easy around here @ yahoo.

  • Women in the late 18th century and Marriage?

During the late 18th century, women from wealthy class are usually required to marry those of the same class. And then a portrait is made of the women (if from wealthy class).

Is there any proof that shows this is true? Or is it not true?Women in the late 18th century and Marriage?
Most people in the late 18th century would marry those of their own class. Peole tended to mix socially with those of the same or similar background. Wealthy people would be likely to have their portraits painted, because it was the custom in those days, there were no photographs, and if you could afford to employ an artist to paint your portrait, it was a status symbol. A lot of people were amateur artists and would paint portraits of family members. Sketching and painting were considered ladylike accomplishments, and women in particular would often paint portraits of other family members.Women in the late 18th century and Marriage?
In the 18th century, women from all classes married those of the same class. This is how it was done. No laws or anything, just custom.

Portraits were made by wealthy families for all sorts of reasons. I have a portrait of my g-grandmother, painted when she was a child in the 1850-1860 time. She was in a wealthy family, but about the 7th child (3rd or 4th daughter). The portrait is high quality, although the name of the artist has been lost. Still, it was unusual to have such a painting done for someone so far down the list. She married a gentleman cleric, which is great, as their grandchild was my father, and without them, I wouldn't exist! There are no paintings that I am aware of showing them in their later years, although they lived long enough for photography, and I do have some of them.

Remember, the social patterns of this period were customs, not rules. There is little that is hard and fast. It is much like today - women get married (first marriages in any case) in white dresses. There is no rule, but that is what almost everyone does, a custom that began with Queen Victoria. I would guess if Diana had been wearing a blue dress when she married Prince Charles, and their marriage had lasted, that we would be seeing lots of blue wedding dresses today. Until fairly recently, people at weddings just wore their best clothes - little special at all.

However, you are correct in your observation that the women was under the man. She took his name, but he took her property, often as part of the marriage contract. In paintings of couples, often the man is sitting, and the woman is standing behind him. Again, not a rule, but a reflection of the custom of the times.
You mean find a textbook reference to that effect?

    Can't do that for you.

BUT...if you looked in a reference book, i am betting you could find out what the average family ';lived'; on in the 1700's.

Bearing in mind the the non gentry usually lived on $100 dollars a year during the Civil War, you could then offer as fact that few if any families could spare the money needed for a portrait.

If you know someone in Art History, they might actually be able to tell you what a painting would cost back then.

But no,...I can't think of a single book that will produce your answer. but i can suggest several that could give a decent ballpark.

Not sure about the wearing/posture tradition...
look at the portraits. remember these woman had NO rights whats so ever. especially during the French Revolution. They had more rights before it that after. So if the portraits have a man and a woman who are dressed like aristocrats then they are both just that.

What do you think of the woman taking the man's last name in marriage?

If you are a married woman, did you do it? Why?

If you are an unmarried woman would you do it or not?

If you are a man, would you take your wife's last name? Do you want your wife to take your last name? Why?What do you think of the woman taking the man's last name in marriage?
I am getting married this summer, so I'll answer... I am taking my fiance's last name. Not only do I hate my last name and all the associations and memories it brings back... I just want to escape it. This is a new part of my life, a new beginning, and I don't want to keep my last name as a reminder of the past. What do you think of the woman taking the man's last name in marriage?
I actually disagree with this in principle. When I get married, I will take my partner's name, but this is only because I was adopted by my step dad when I was younger - the last name I have now isn't really my family name so under these circumstances I will.

I will never be a Mrs. or a Miss. I am, and will always be a Ms as I don't believe my name should give away whether I am married or not. And if you think about it, Mrs is just Mr's.
I hyphenated my name. I can go by either. I already had my children so no need to worry about what to name them. My son is from a previous relationship and he has my last name. My daughter is with my husband and she has his last name. I didn't want my son to be the only one with a different last name. I would have just kept my last name, but my husband pitched a hissy fit so I compromised.
This is a cultural thing. There is no law that says you have to but some people feel very strongly about it.

I was married and I took his name. But it was quite an adjustment. I'd had my maiden name for so many years, it was hard to get used to having a new one.
When I was married, my husband and I agreed we would take each others surnames and add them to the end of our names.

I didn't want to lose my family name, no more than that.

I don't see a problem with it, and I certainly do not see 'Mrs' and 'Mr's'. it's worse than history being HIS-story!
I'm not married, but I'd have no problem taking my husband's last name. I don't see any reason not to.

But I wouldn't knock any other woman for not doing so. If she wants to keep her name, then so be it.
I think a husband %26amp; wife should have the same last name whether they use his or her last name. The reason is; if they have children then they would all have the same family name. :)
She and the kids will take my last name. If she wants, she can keep her family name as her middle name, like Hillary Rodham Clinton. Hyphenation seems like someone trying to make a point.
I thought I wanted to. But I have plans for my life, so I want to be known by my maiden name. And my future hubby's name might not even match mine.
I'm married and we don't believe in following traditions that mean nothing to us.

We BOTH changed our names to completely merge them.
Woman don't want to be with men anymore from what i've seen.
I wouldn't take his last name. Why should his last name be more important than mine?
As I am already professionally established with my maiden name, I plan on keeping it.
    ask ur husband
When I was marry I kept my last name I did not want to change it for professional reason.
If I get married I'd no problem with taking my man last name..

Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?

I am writing a paper on the evolution of American attitude towards same sex marriage and want your feedback. Do you support Gay Marriage? Only civil unions? Or not at all?Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?
I don't know why this bothers me so much, even though it doesn't affect me i just find it strange. I've been in the presence of a same sex couple and i just find it awkward when they make out, I know it's because i'm not used to it but i don't want to be.

I do believe in opposite sex marriages.

I'm sorry if you don't like it.Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?
If we are to have laws concerning marriage, we ought to figure out why we have those laws. We can't have the government in the business of people's personal affections and relationships unless there is an extremely good reason.

If two people in love cannot be happy unless they get a piece of paper from the government (a marriage certificate), then we need to get government out of the marriage business.
I do believe that people have the right to date who ever they want but, I have always been taught that a marriage its self should be between a man and a women. My family are big christians and that's what I have always heard at church and from them and I am not trying to force my religious beliefs on anyone at all I do not think any homosexual is lower than me because I treat everyone equal but, that's just my opinion on it we all think differently right?
I oppose. Although, I have no hard feelings towards gay people at all, because of my beliefs, it would make me a hypocrite to support gay marriage and to practice my religion.
Looking from a Law and Civil rights stand point, I support them.

But as for my life and my preference, I am against myself having one b/c of my beliefs.
    Support.

Equal rights mean EQUAL. Not equal for some and unequal for others.

Anyone who does not support gay marriage is a loser.
oppose, they should have rights like any other couple, but not marriage, i mean they could call it something else. and as an adopted person i all so disagree with homosexuals adopting.
I oppose both homosexual marriage and homosexual civil unions. I feel both are unnatural.
Support. It doesn't take anything away from anyone elses' marriage.
I don't care for it,but I also don't really care what other people do.

Just keep it away from me and I won't bother them.
I DO NOT support gay marriage
I oppose it. Marriage is for men and women ONLY.

Do catholic men do anything sexual before marriage?

i have a new boyfriend who is catholic. We have been on two dates so far over space of three weeks and due to meet up on valentines day.we haven't kissed yet but are planning on valentines day. anyway I am thinking since he is religious, does that mean he'll only what to kiss? what are your thoughts...Do catholic men do anything sexual before marriage?
    Short answer: yes.

It really depends on his level of commitment and how religious he is. My boyfriend is Catholic (so am I), and he grew up in a militant Catholic Household. BUT, he isn't very religious and after a few dates, we kissed, which eventually moved on to making out and fooling around which eventually became all out sex.

If he is extremely Catholic and wants to wait for marriage, he probably will be less likely to have sex. But, in truth, those guys are few and far between.

Don't be in such a rush to have sex though. Appreciate him taking things slow, and savor it. Guys like that are rare and he must really like you. Once you reach the next level, it changes things (for better or worse depending on the relationship) and you can never go back to those early days when everything was new and exciting.

Relationships get better with age, but it takes time to get to know someone. The better you know them, the better and more meaningful the sex will be.Do catholic men do anything sexual before marriage?
I dated a catholic boy .. it took 32 dates before I got a kiss and even that I initiated it. My guy was very shy and inexperienced (not that I had any experience, but I did know how to kiss). It is not good to date a shy guy because you are always have to take the lead in sex stuff and they are always over compensating by being too bossy outside the bedroom.
If he follows what the bible says than he'll wait till marriage. Cause that's a special gift you can give your husband/wife. And then you don't have to worry about diseases, or unwanted (teenage)pregnancy's. Then you will be doing what God wants you to do. Wait till your married, cause that's a real commitment. Not like just dating.
Religion is full of hypocrisy and lies.

So although he might promise to his God and priest that he'll live a good Catholic life, he'll be lying through his teeth and doing what the rest of us do.
I'll just say this, my husband is catholic and we had 2 kids before we got married, so that should answer your question however not all guys are the same.
some do, some don't. I sure did, once I got over all the crap the church forced into my head, and man, was I much better off once I started having sex. Yahhoooooooo!!!!1
Sounds to me like your interested in him messing up the bed sheets with you. Kinda funny you've only been on two dates and this is what your worried about lol
Trust me, yes they do. Young guys do not care about religion when it comes to sex.
not if hes TRUELY catholic and believes FULLY in his religion. and u should respect him for that if he is! =] %26lt;3 so good luck and have a great time!
Haha, One of em lost their V to me...yea, sorry but all men are sexual, and if they're not they will tell you straight up.
i came from a catholic school.. ive done drugs, had sex, fought. im sure im not the only one..

usually christians are the one who dont do that stuff
HAHAHAHA OF COURSE THEY DO !
don't set ur heart on having any sex of any kind before u marry shud u choose to and try not to pressurize him into doing so.
Most christians (including myself) have a hard time practicing what we are preached. XD
jump on his lap, you'll get an answer soon enough
ya they sucked on their mother's nipples when they were born.. other than that.. I dont think so.
    not if their devoted catholics
the ones i knew sure did...

okay long story short I am a mom of three hellions and are freinds are staying with us for the time being I have no energy for anything and when he trys I just don't want it I am to tired or stressed or something is always wrong help please? How to add a little spice to marriage?
I wrote an article with this title... try some of the things and I agree with the poster above (i gave thumbs up) that the people staying with you should chip in some time taking kids to park or movies.

Also people staying with you can be very stressful.. make sure you are divvying up chores and stuff and not being taken advantage of. Emotinally that can wear thin. How to add a little spice to marriage?
Why don't you get a baby sitter and go out once a week? You two need your alone time too whether you're being intimate or just having an adult conversation.

Talk to your friends, they're staying at your house anyways..so why not ask them if they can watch the kids for a night while you and your husband go out?

If you have relative close by, ask if they can stay there over night once in a while..or better yet..talk to another mother you may know with multiples and offer to trade off sleep overs. People are more willing to trade off on sleep overs cause they know they're going to get their chance to have alone time too.
You are doing your friends a huge favor, so ask them to take the kids to a nearby place/park for 1-2 hours on weekend mornings. And then tell him to start with a nice long full body massage for YOU. Once you are relaxed, you will want him to touch you in that special way.

Freezing a man out of his bed is a very, very risky thing to do. He quickly thinks that you don't care about HIM. This is not about sex - anyone can masturbate and get release in about 5 minutes, this is about your man feeling that you love him enough to want to please HIM.

If he is a decent husband then you need to be a good wife.

When sex is good it is 10 percent of the relationship, when it is bad/not happening it becomes 90 percent of the relationship.
honnie, i say suck it up and put out. let him massage you first or something to get your blood flowing, because if you keep using being tired as an excuse, even though you are, it will wear him out. he still wants your milf *** three kids later- give him some. thats a good man. ;)

your probably not going to get enough sleep with the kids around anyhow, so why not have a good excuse for the bags under your eyes. plus, sex relieves so much stress.
I need some details. How long has this been? What's the significance of the friends being there? If you're not depressed. Then try having a glass of wine, or maybe a pain pill. It's bad advice I know, but if you need to unwind go for it, just don't go crazy. Don't swing with the friends. Try fantasizing about your husband if you get a free minute. It will set your mood
Go buy a new outfit and wig; something that makes you feel sexy. Let your friends watch the kids. Invite your husband on a date. Go to the movies, bowling, or whatever you all enjoy. Next go out to dinner and have a drink or two. Then go rent a hotel/motel room.
I would say it sounds like you need some time away. try your hardest to get away for a day do something for you, give yourself some time alone away from the family it will make you want to be around your husband
Um.....is he .....um....doing it right? Like are you getting as much out of it as he is? If you aren't climaxing then that might be your problem. Figure out a way to tell him you need to get yours too!
    Midgets.
Buy more pepper and pour it in your bed.
Just be glad he still wants you after 3 kids.
you need to try harder....get more sleep....take a shower......go to bed earlier.

When waiting in line for our marriage license in NYC, we saw a bunch of couples get married, some went in jeans, some were dressed up, we even saw one girl in a wedding dress. Its up to you, there is no dress code.
i'd have fun with it and do whatever you want!
Wear what ever is comfortable for you. There is no dress code

Try the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution.

Section 1. Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. And the Congress may by general laws prescribe the manner in which such acts, records, and proceedings shall be proved, and the effect thereof.

Does that clause say that if a gay couple is legally married in one state that all states have to recognize the marriage?

    There is your topic!

What is a interesting topic about gay marriage?
What kind of school would let their teachers use this as topic? It's extremely controversial - unless you have to argue both sides of the topic?

Maybe you could review the ';landscape'; of our society today, project how many gay marriages there will be in 40 years and what the world will look like and then 100 years from now - how much of a difference will gay marriage make to this country? How much impact will it really have if children are raised in that atmosphere? How much will what happens here impact the world given the ';global-ness'; we are experiencing now (and how fast will those changes happen given the internet and other technologies - changes in the thinking/actions of the population are much faster, more dramatic and have greater ';collateral damage'; than they did 50 or 100 years ago).

How children are affected and the school system because if gay marriage is legal then the schools have to teach on it.
the benefits of gay marriage vs that of a civil union.

Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?

I am writing a paper on the evolution of American attitude towards same sex marriage and want your feedback. Do you support Gay Marriage? Only civil unions? Or not at all?Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?
People are equal, and deserve equal opportunity to marry. Why is that so hard for people to understand? Gay marriage harms no heterosexual. What good comes from denying gay couples access to the same benefits of marriage? Reassurance that gayness isn't being condoned? Instead we would condone intolerance, and that is somehow preferable.

As far as civil unions, in our country's history ';separate but equal'; never worked. It's the same ';save our values'; ';that's not what the Bible says'; ';what about the children'; bullshite that conservative jerks pulled with inter-racial marriage (and apparently still do, if you check recent headlines in Louisiana). All of the effort of people who want to deny others the happiness and basic legal benefits of marriage stems from fear and hate of people who are different from themselves. Has history taught us anything about such motives?Do you oppose or support same sex marriage?
I oppose - because the idea of reducing romance to a contract is something which belongs in the patriarchal dark age. I always hoped that straight people would become more like gay people and move away from peculiar, antediluvian notions such as ';marriage';.

But, hey, I'm not American - so feel free to discount my opinion!
Any consenting adults should be able to marry any other consenting adults...no matter what sex, or how many. That's how I feel about it...I've not seen a single argument against gay marriage or polygamy that was a logical, valid reason to disallow it.
I support civil unions for same sex people. Their unions probably have a much of a failure rate as regular marriages. Plus they can get benefits for each other if they have a legel union such as insurance, benefits, etc.
Any person has the right to decide who he wants to marry as long as there is a mutual agreement, regardless of sex, age or gender.
Marriage is between two consenting adults that love each other and that want to spend their life together.
I can't believe that people still are so against same sex marriage. It is so ridiculous. It is there own business, if they love each other why not?
    I oppose.
i support gay marriage they have the right to get marry as anyone else does

Do you feel like it should be completely legal in every state reguardless of religion?Poll: How do you feel about gay marriage?
i think only the masculine handsome gay men should get married

the camps give us normal gays a bad namePoll: How do you feel about gay marriage?
I think that the legal end of marriage should be possible for all gender combinations in all states.

As for religious ceremonies, that is up to the individual church. If a specific church doesn't want to do a certain marriage ceremony, that is entirely within their rights and should not be pushed.

Because commitment is commitment and love is love regardless of gender, and every religion has its own rules that it should be allowed to follow within its own walls.
It's not a matter of it being illegal. The laws don't make it illegal. The laws give special benefits to certain types of marriages but does not make other types illegal. These benefits are from my tax dollars.

Gay marriage should remain legal but unrecognized by the states as eligible for special benefits. Why? Because gay marriage is of no special benefit to society. Nor are gays an especially needy group. So I don't see giving them my tax dollars.
Of course. It's ridiculous. Who is anybody else to tell another they can't marry someone. It's such crap. Like love doesn't exist outside of ';Man %26amp; Woman'; relationships.

I don't even care, me and my husband, are happy together. We have been together a year and a half, and we are ';married'; by our standards. We wear a ring, and we act as a functioning married couple. It happened the day we told each other, we loved each other, wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, happy %26amp; faithful. So anybody who doesn't support it can run off with their little peice of immature paper. Hope they feel real good denying rights.

I don't care about it being ';legal';, I wish it was though, for the simple fact that my husband is spanish, and was deported, and if the government recognized gay marriage, he'd be allowed to stay and live here in the US with me, but because they don't he was deported and now I have to live in El Salvador, without running water, and worrying if I will eat some days.

But I love my husband, and I'll die by his side before I'll live without him,

I just hope the rest of the american citizens who are hateful discriminators feel real good about them selves.
Yes absolutely! I think that whoever wants to get married should get married, I really don't see why this is such a big problem! Ya, I know it's 'against' some people's religion but it's not like they have to go watch it! and they don't get little notes every time someone gay gets married do they? They aren't being forced to do it or take part. Why can't some people understand that other people can live the way they want? and that that way of living just might be different? AHHHHHHH lol
i'm a lesbian and MY belief is that marriage is a permit to have sex and reproduce. but other people see it differently i still think that it should be legal though.. this country isn't very religious anymore any way. and if it does become legal i will happily marry my girlfriend :)
When our founding father's created the United States they said that ';everyone should be treated equally';. Are we treating these people equally? I understand where people come from when they say it's wrong, but I feel we are taking away human rights just because some of us are selfish and don't enjoy seeing them happy. Their lives are ten times more complicated than ours, and yet some people still enjoy seeing them struggle and be miserable.
I am all for it. I can only hope that us younger generations don't get jaded by certain institutions as we become older and infiltrate the government.
HELL YEAH! bsides it would feeel awsume to throw it in religiouse peoples face because you did something that feels right for you :)
I think everyone should be able to get married wherever the are.
it's ridiculous for it not to be legal
    Absolutly!!!! No doubt about it!!!!!

Are there any good arguments against gay marriage?

I don't have a problem with it, I'm straight, how will some gay couple being able to marry affect my life? Waiting to have sex until AFTER marriage is unnatural too, so I guess people who think being gay is unnatural also have plenty of premarital sex...Are there any good arguments against gay marriage?
I used to go to conservative churches that teach that puritanical crap, and I learned that the leaders of these churches actually crack jokes about 30 and 40 year-old virgins behind their backs. Now I just send my Christian friends to the site below which debunks the whole thing against premarital sex in the Bible. It covers same-sex lifestyles too. I hope it helps you.Are there any good arguments against gay marriage?
    well why is that unnatural?

whatever... but I'm for it. I don't think being gay or waiting for marriage are unnatural..
Um lets see... no there is not any arguments.

Just let them live, if they truly love each other than go for it.

    I love everyone
No. I don't understand why so many people oppose it. Let them be happy!
